New boots ?
 

Time for another fishing boot thread!! Unfortunatley I don't think my Simms Headwaters are going to make another season. Since they discontinued the version I have I'm wondering who has their newer boots and how are they holding up?
I know a few guys were less than impressed with some of their new boots because it seemed like the felt changed and it didnt hold grip studs as good as the previous versions. Looking at the Simms site, and their Freestone boots weigh in at 65.6oz ! The guides are 60.8 and Rock Creek 43.2. Seeing as they'll be used for wetsuiting, fishing beaches and the canal I need something that will hold up and not feel like I'm hiking with cinder blocks on my feet! I like the weight of the Rock Creek but I don't think they'll hold up for a season.
What other manufacturers are you using ? I won't own anything by Korkers and nothing with the BOA system. Thanks.

Cabelas wading boots are fine

Andy, I obviously don't pound them like you do, but my cabelas are fine and to some extent for the lower prices could just need to be considered disposable. Unfortunately its tough to build anything that is well made that salt, rocks sand and the heat buildup in you truck can't destroy in short order. You fish a lot, and would like to hear others opinions on boots that actually last.

I also use the cabelas. I have the studded type and I'm going into season 3 now. I use em for wading and wetsuiting. They're durable, light, and the studs have eliminated the need for korkers, even on the most knotted-wrack-covered rocks. Washing them thoroughly after each use is going to extend their life, no question.

Lol, If I wore my spikes on your deck would those work?

Rubber soles..good in certain areas , not so good in other areas.

I actually have a pair with felt soles - for <80 bucks (they are all on sale and if you spend a total $99 its $5 shipping) its not a bad deal. There are the lightwieghts and the heavier weight ones, your choice but if if you are swimming with them more go lights, heavier might be better if you only standing there and riding the bike. I went up 1 size as I use them also for steelhead fishing with heavy socks and the room actually is better to keep you feet warm but they arent so big on me that that they are real sloppy in summer. I expoxied in my wearbars (before the new style grip studs were all the rage) and havent had any issues. Again you fish a lot so they may not last as long as the ones I have.

Cabelas has many models to choose from, I use the cheap ones and I can put the studs in them. I like felt also but if these last 4-5 years, that is good enough for me at 50-60 bucks it's cheap like me

To be honest my buddy picked up a pair of 20$ workboots at walmart we put spikes in em and they've held up great!

These $200 boots who's seams melt at the slightest touch of saltwater will soon be a thing of the past for me. I think alot of these $200+ boots are designed for trout fishing while smoking cigars... Not the #^&#^&#^&#^& we do.

X2. On my second pair in 15 years and I fish the Canal fairly hard. Felt soles that I put Wearbars in. 24 studs to a boot. They are light and inexpensive.

Ordered the Cabelas ones, thanks guys. The price is especially good since Ty needed new ones too...anyone want to hire a 14 year old kid that keeps growing too fast?

Years ago I had a pair of cheep Velcro type closures on a pair that might have been Cabelas and first time into the salt, sand worked into the fabric of the flap and swelled the flap to the point I had to tear the eyelet out of the boot to get them off. Never again would I get anything other than a laced boot.
