Striper Talk Striped Bass Fishing, Surfcasting, Boating - New PENN Clash to be announced at ICAST

Seems like it will be similar to a Conflict with Torque gearing. Has PENN finally listened and is giving anglers machined gearing in place of the cast pot metal gearing that we all know and love:rolleyes: in a reasonably priced spinning reel? These reels are being tested down south on big tuna and in South Africa on whatever they catch down there. I see no mention of being waterproof unfortunately but they are claiming lower weight and an innovative drag system.

Renowned reel maker PENN is planning to launch a brand new range of spinning reels at this summer’s EFTTEX and ICAST shows.

The prestigious Pure Fishing brand is keeping details and images of the reel under wraps, but Angling International understands that it is being engineered in the company’s headquarters in Columbia, South Carolina, and will be called Clash.

The reel will incorporate the machined gear technology so successful in PENN’s TRQ/TORQUE spinning reel models, but will be positioned in a more affordable price category. Patrick Sébile, Global Director of sister company Sébile, was among the field testers working on the new project.

“I have used the reel intensively and believe it is revolutionary for the quality and price point,” he said. Designed by the same engineers behind the acclaimed International V and TRQ/TORQUE models, the lightweight Clash will also feature PENN’s improved Level-Line system.

“What makes this new reel unique is that we have used the experience gained from developing the TRQ/TORQUE spinning reel series to make sure we achieve the right smoothness and strength of gear,” said Robert Valkeneer, EMEA Brand Product Manager for PENN and SpiderWire. “We have also looked at the weight and introduced an innovative drag system.”
