North River Question

Question for some of the north river experts out there...What's the furthest down river you've ever hooked up with a striped bass? I'm thinking they at times travel all the way down but once the water starts turning brackish the food sources start fading away and as a result the fish may turn around?

More curiosity than anything.

Thanks guys!

well to give you something to ponder
given that your curious
in 1939 a very large bull shark
was caught in the state of illinois
having traveled over 1000 miles up-river.
it's up to the fish and if food is plentiful

We've caught decent sized fish all the way up the River just past the Union Street bridge. There is a small parking area there and you can launch a kayak. Also a large stretch of marsh grass on the upstream side of the bridge where you can set up.

Gotten from shore as far up as the rte 3 overpass. Union street bridge was awesome for jumpin. Plenty of 30# fish have come from there when i was younger

talked to a fly fisherman way up where the Indian Head River starts below the dam and he has caught stripers in the spring right there below the fish ladder.

A lifetime ago I used to take a canoe way up river and swim some eels. Surprised at how well it worked.

Since they can go from salt to fresh, the only thing that stops them are obstacles like dams and insufficient food.
