Canal Stick Shadd helped needed
I think I do ok at the canal. I think I catch more fish than the person next to me on bucktails and pencils. However, if I put a stick shadd on I'm lost and have no confidence. I cast uptide and basically let it drift down. I try to fish it almost like i would drift a fly if I fly fished. I try to keep a tiny bit of resistance on the line while freespooling it. I have different size sinkers and floaters.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks Paul |
Reel as fast as you can. If that doesn't work add a few pauses. For me it is speed that triggers the bite and it is a violent bite so hang on.

I haven't used them in the canal but away for it ripping it trough the water and then pausing has always produced well.

There is no one way to fish them. Sometimes I fish them like you would a spook, other times let them sink and almost jig them, reel in fast, then slow etc. This morning I had one fish , on a stick shad walking the dog very lightly while reeling at a good pace.

I use it like a spook..... but then again I can't catch a fish so don't go by what I say

I like to point the rod at the plug, crank fairly fast and pump the rod on occasion. Sometimes a straight fast retrieve works well but generally pumping it gives that "Walk The Dog" action under the water.

Bass can't resist them. You'll get the hang of it,it's just like every lure you just have to dial in and find out what works best for you. Good luck out there! 5/0 Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |

;-) Crank and twitch with tip pointed at lure the at the canal has produced fish for even yours truly.... which should be a statement of how great the plug is, not the technique or the fisherman in my case |
I'll prob. call him later today ;)

Gonna try some of the techniques in a little while.
Thanks all |
Also 4 or 5 quick cranks, pause. 4 or 5 cranks, pause. Cranks give it momentum and it zooms a eratically on the pause. Toss it close, try different things and watch what happens.
