Quantum reel repair question for Bucko's
My Quantum Cabo CSP 40 PTS separated where the bail arm meet the roller... I got the reel in mid 2011 when Quantum offered me a new replacement reel for $65.00 after sending in my original 40, which had broken down. That transaction took almost four months. This reel lives on the boat and gets rinsed after every use, usually with a bottle of fresh water. Still rusted and corroded at the break.
So after reviewing my thread from that period, I am asking for recent feedback about Bucko's current service repairing reels and turn around. A contact would be appreciated. Love this reel when in service. Smooth drag. Great for casting from the boat and perfect albie reel. But can't be without a reel for the rest of the season..... What else should I be looking at to fill the void, in case I can't get this resolved quickly? Thanks. |
Buckos has a horrible reputation, send them to surfland.

You want an albie reel? Shelf that Quantum and get yourself a Shimano Stradic 5000. It's my workhorse, man. I've caught fish big and small with it, including tarpon to 80 pounds. Smooth, compact, reliable. Holds nearly 300 yards of 20-pound braid. Also, take the time to hose your gear off, not with a blasting force, but a gentle spray. Keep moving parts oiled or greased and you'll have them for years.

May I suggest ordering the bail assembly and servicing the reel yourself. The schematics and parts list is available online.

It seems my cabo 40 disease has spread to the north shore now. Ross dont take it to buckos. Their service is not what it used to be

Can't beat the stradic 5000 or the Surfland service. Martha's the best.

Another option is Beavertail Rod & Reel - Dave Morton is the owner. Great guy great service great pricing. He's in North Kingstown, RI.

my cabo 40 drag just went completely last year, haven't done anything with it, but will send back to cabo. used the reel for about 6 years for schoolies in the spring not what I would call heavy use!

Last three reels I sent to Bucko's never worked right. Had to have my buddy Kevin Lord fix them all. Gifted mechanical engineer who started doing this for friends.
