Tidal Pools
 

Look I know that it is a little off of the subject but I was hoping for a little help.

I have been following the board here for the past couple of years Posting on rare occasions but reading enough that my style of fishing has improved dramaticaly. Kudos to all of you guys that post.

what I am looking for is a little info on were I can bring a bunch of kids to explore tidal pools. I am willing to travel from New Hampshire to Rhode Island and anywhere inbetween.

We are visiting from out of state anything that you could offer would be appreciated. thanks for the help in adance and tight lines.

Beavertail and Brenton Point have some good ones. SAVE THE BAY brought my sons' school to those. The west side of Charlestown Breachway has a great one but you need a boat or oversand vehicle to get there. Hope this helps.

I agree with scotch , I remember when I was a kid , long time ago === my uncle would catch choggies & ballonfish at Newport & he would put them in a pool so I could check them out

Cape Cod Museum of Natural History (Rt 6A, Brewster) Phone #508 385 4477 has programs where they bring kids out to the tidal pools and explain the systems to them. They also have some great displays in the Museum

Newport is a great spot for tidal pools (I remember from my old CG days), esp if you follow Bellevue Ave all the way out to Brenton Point. Nice ride- very scenic.

Is a tidal pool a smaller version of a salt pond??? :confused:

thats where everyone at the tide soap factory places bets on the next football game...... :)

prolly you could call it any natural formation in the shore line of beach or stone that traps high tide water and sea creatures too.

When I was in high school, I took a course in Marine Biology at the 4 C's. For our study of tidal pools we went to Chapin Beach in Dennis, on the outgoing tide. If you hit it right, in addition to the pools there are awesome flats out to the Bay which have wadeable draining channels where you can find more aquatic sealife, Sometimes what washed in and was left on the flats can be as exciting as what's in the water. And the thing about Chapin is that generally it's not crowded at all.
The National History Museum in Brewster is just a bit further up 6A. You might also contact the Cape Cod National Seashore and see if any of their rangers do programs like you're looking for. Both have websites you can check out.

In Gloucester, there is Wingearsheak beach that has limited tide pools at low tide and there is also Good Harbor Beach that has a creek with all kinds of stuff in it.

Look into the New England Aquarium. The have a program in Newport that does just what you are talking about... http://www.neaq.org/visit/newport.html

Otherwise I would say the Newport / Beavertail locations...


Welcome back! Was wondering where the Utah Chef went...

The Audubon preserve down on the cape is also a great location.

I love Brenton Point though...

My dog especially loves tidal pools...
Goes crashing through them, finds a little green crab, chews it up, realizes it dosen't taste very good, spits it out, finds another green crab.... You get the picture...

She started this habit at about 6mo's old, couldn't figure out for the life of me what she was doing until I walked over and watched her.

Still kills me every time. :laughs:

The mini aqarium at First/Easton's beach is a perfect.There program is absolutely geared towards educating kids.I'm 34 and I had a blast.

Tidal Pools
 

We used to have a cottage in Eastham, on the cape when I was a kid. They have tidal pools up the ying yang there. We used to walk out at low tide a mile and a half or better going from sandbar to tidal pool to sandbar to tidal pool. I know they are still there. Have fun.


I am starting to question whether or not I have enough fishing rods.........so just to make sure I do I think I'll make another.

any beach with alot of rock formation should have some nice pools.good luck..
