Grody Charles River "Floaters"
Have a story I just HAVE to share.
Early this morning I was out running on the Charles River along Memorial Drive. Passed the BU bridge and headed East towards MIT. I noticed there were quite a few Canada geese in the area, so many that there are now "Goose Xing" signs up at the intersections. No joke. As I was passing the MIT boat house, I noticed some poor gal trying to hose down the dock. I swear, there must have been at least 100 POUNDS of olive/green goose doodoo on the dock. It was pretty disgusting. As I proceeded running, I witnessed some TREMENDOUS splashing and swirling on the river surfcace immediately on the downcurrent side of the boathouse. As far as I could tell it was fish and not aquatic birds. I sat there like an idiot trying to figure out what species but couldn't, since I didn't have my contacts in. Anyhoo, a nasty thought just popped into my head. 1) Fish were swirling around some elongated green stuff in the water.... 2) That was being hosed into the river by the lady on the dock just upstream... The fish were chowing on goose turds or the fish were chowing on baitfish that were chowing on goose turds. :yak: Crossed the Mass Ave bridge and happened upon an angler soaking some bait on a dock just a stone's throw from Storrow Drive. I didn't have the heart to tell him what the fish were feeding on. :laughs: Wish I had a camera, it was unreal to see. -WW |

my brother works at swan boats and they have to do that every morning. its gross. then like once a month someone goes into the pond in waders and rakes the krap out of the water and onto the bank so they can get rid of it. ive seen it, HUGE piles of algie covered crap. they are disgusting animals. those were probally carp in the river, theres tuns of them there, some are huge, and they eat everything.
|
Last fall......200-300 of them on the soccer fields near home made for a "messy" game.
YUK !!!!:yak6: :yak6: |
Endangered species my arse.
I generally don't have anything against 'em, they population could use a little thinning, though. -WW |
just flying cows....that's all they are...
i've seen those carp------HUGE---is the word......never caught one though...another thing that is on my list to do... |

Thanks Mr. Habs.
Even I can make my own floaters. :laughs: |
You wanna see some geese?Come to Newport, the resident pop.
is huge.Just on the property at the house I'm working at has least 200 birds, all with goslings. There are 1000s upon 1000s on Aquidneck Island. And when the migratory birds show up its unbelievable. Unfortunately you can't hunt 'em.That would be cruel, according to the likes of PETA and other bunny hugger types. |
i had that similiar situation. i was on the soccer team when i was in high school. i was stretching with my teammates and i sat on the geese's crap. :o
|
Ya wanna see GEESE, take up golf . . . :yak6:
