Winter reading suggestions
 

Looking for fishing books to read this winter.

Not so much how to/instructional books but more about fish and their make up, science, eyesight etc

Obviously anything related to striped bass is key

Lou Tabory's books. Worth it even though it is a fly book and not exactly what you are looking for.

I have both of John Skinner's books Fishing the Bucktail and Striper Pursuit. There is some guiding and such but he does put those tid bits in here and there given how short the books are.

"Surfcasters Quest" by Roy Rowan......one of the best books I have ever read all 3 times I have read it!!

Reading the water, my fav. Night Tides. Striper Wars. Striper A story of fish and man. Caught was ok too. I think i may reread night tides

Shouldn't take more than the winter to get through, but Mrs. Clause got most of my reading wish list.

The Fisherman's Ocean by David Ross is good and pretty in line with what you are looking for.

Crunch and Des is awesome. I have probably read it 10 times. Just a great book

In a little different vain. Cod, by M. Kurlanski and the secret life of lobsters, I don't remember that author's name.

Piemma, no spoiler alerts on Crunch and Des, please. But thanks for the heads up. I look forward to reading it.

And DZ's book... Over and over... It gets better everytime i read it. That book is alive, i swear it.

It is a decent read, but we called that one 'a yuppies guide to surfcasting Jamestown and Block Island... he wasn't exactly roughing it, was he :bl:

No he wasnt! Instead of twin maples he spoke of harveys house overlooking sw drinking amber liquid!

Light reading. Not techniques but fun mysteries by Phillip Craig. All set on Marthas Vineyard. To break tension and think he and his girlfriend then wife in later books hit Wasque for bluefish. You will recognize the locations various scenes and if you like MV or the derby or even the vineyard island attitude they are fun and simple mysteries. I have read about 9 of his 21JW Jackson Vineyard Mysteries. Good way to unwind.

Caught was good, Zach Harveys epilogue was a pleasant addition to the book, it did a good job at describing the current state of the fishery and why finger pointing is not constructive to the plight of the fisheries.

Sort of an old thread, but getting to that time of year. Anything new and interesting anyone's reading this winter?
My library is back in NJ, still on the Cape (no complaints about that). I found a whole bunch of books by Joseph Lincoln in my dad's basement. Not so much fishing, but about old sea captains and old fishermen. Lincoln grew up on the Cape and then wrote stories about going's-on in fictional Cape towns. Fun stuff. What's anyone else reading?

Used to read a lot when I worked midnights not so much now , mostly WW 1 and 2 stuff this was a good book

I really liked "Striper" by John Cole. It's sorta two books in one: a chapter about the life of striped bass from molt to adulthood, and the next about the life of college kid haul net seining off of Long Island. The two stories go well together
