Roberts Lures..
Is Roberts' lures outa business? I need some plugs for bonito and other species.
|
What ever gave you that idea? Are ya gonna use a 3.5 ounce Banana Ranger for Bones?
Seriously, I reasonably think that Robert's Lures is financially in good hands for the years to come... |
Uhhhh, Notaro...
I think for SHORE bonito and false albies your best bets are slender tins. Here are my favorites in order of preference. 1) Deadly #^^^^& 2) Swedish Pimple 3) 007 Diamond Jig 4) Kastmaster Albies will take certain plugs (poppers, bright colored needlefish retrieved with a very fast jerky retrieve) at certain times but you'll have more fun with tins, trust me. Oh yeah, USE A GOOD 20 INCHES FLOUROCARBON LEADER, 15 LB TEST. TIE DIRECT, NO SNAPS. |
My favorites:
Murderous Richard Megabait Jig Hammer! I caught my first Albie on a pink Hab's Monster Needlefish. Great Point, fish were way out, mostly blues with some ablies mixed in. Used my 1205 Arra and a Mage Elite to cast way beyond where the 8' spinning crowd could cast too. I was expecting a blue when the Albie sucked it down :D |

Roberts Lures are fine. He now owns Larry's tackle shop in Edgartown. There is nothing like a 4oz ranger to cut thru a gale wind.
My favorite bonito lure is the megabait jig (Johns #2) . Megabait is my favorite commerially made plug as well...They cast great, swim great and have Great finish and VMC hooks. #2 green D#^^^^& is a tackle box staple, but it is not my favorite. Attached are my fav castin lures for bonito/albi's: |

one more:
I rigged them with a bead chain and a ss siwash on floro. I hope to troll these briskly thru hedge fence in a week or so. |
I saw Roberts at Benny's the other day.

Nice hands ! . . . . :D
Sorry, BM is on the mend and SOMEONE had to fill in. |
Notaro might just be on the money and know something those posting so far do not. (whether he is aware or not is another question)
My faavgorite species is Tunis Tunis, the atlantic bonito and I must own and have thrown over 100 different types of artificial. Sweedish Pimples are probasbly my most consistant winner but the Hammer is right there with em. The Hammer is now put out by guess who...Roberts Lures and has been for two years. they were tough to find last year but are all over this year. Notaro buddy, the hammer gets the bones Now here will post Fisherwoman talking aboput a little known tin called the StingSilver....they don't work;) |
thats what im looking for! the hammers! fishweewee, wouldn't a knot hinder the action of the tin or a small plug? what happens if u put a snap on it?
|
Bonito and Albies have excellent vision. You NEED to tie direct with lighter flourocarbon in order to maximize your chances of hooking up with those tricky little bastards. A snap would not be advisable. You need every advantage you can get.

Listen to your DON Notaro...skiop the terminal tackle

I'll attest to this.
No snaps, swivels or anything of that nature Lure to leader to line. They'll ignore you like you don't exist otherwise... |
perfect. im gonna copy and paste this thread so i can acquire some bonnie lures for the trip w/ my buddy on the rips. so tell me, how do you like them to be cooked? i dont trust the chinese methods. i need a real and pure NE cuisine.
Johnr, i got an idea that it was closed because i couldn't open their website and look for the products. |
