Nantucket
I just found out I'm going to Nantucket for the first weekend in Sept. -- retreat for us worker bees at my co. (sweet eh?)
and ....sigh.... I've not caught a single fish all season.... (do you feel bad for me yet?) And I've got a bad blister on my hand.... sniff sniff. (how bout now, feeling pity???) (GOOD, then here's the pitch:) Does anyone know of a good spot in Nantucket I can hit? Even if you can PM me, I promise not to tell or probably ever go there again, but I wanted to see if I could get in some fish-time while I'm there.... |

Sorry Sweetie... Couldn't resist! :smash: |
Yes - know spots on Nantucket but yer best bet is to hit up Beachwalker 'cause he's current.
Have not caught a fish yet? Hmmm, we need to fix that. If you get an invite for a weekend night to fish Rhody you could crash at your dad's, right? We'll need to rectify that lack-o-fishy thing.... |
Yes, and dad just got a new pad....
I was this close *holding finger and thumb together* to catching a few weeks ago, but a tangled line stopped me from getting my bait back in there. And I could almost HEAR the stripers calling to me: we're hunnnggrryy.... please feeeeeeddd usss! Going out Sunday morning, come Hell or HIGH WATER! |
"There once was a gal who fished Nantucket..." :p
|
Who was tired of Gloucster and said "^$*#* It"
(Let's keep this realtivly clean and appropriate please :D ) |
She packed up her rod, put some eels in a bucket ...

She said with a grin. . . Wait. On to content:
This is a rollup of posts I've made on other boards about well-known Nantucket spots accessible without 4WD. If you have access to a 4WD vehicle, reply in the thread or PM me and I'll give your more. These are flyfishing recommendations. Plugs and tin are equally effective. You can walk from town to Jetties Beach on a coming tide at dawn or dark and catch large fish on the outside of the west jetty with sand eel and silverside patterns. With Korkers and a life vest, you can walk further out the jetty and nail albies on white bunnies and sparse surf candies. You can walk to Brant Point lighthouse at dawn and compete with the bait fishermen. Lob big eel or sand eel patterns into the holes created by the ferry propellers. You can drive or bicycle to south shore beaches at Tom Nevers and Surfside and Miacomet and Madequecham and walk onto beach and catch fish in the wash. You can drive out the Eel Point Road to the 40th pole and hike a little bit to flats where you might still see a few cruising bass. There are plenty of places to fish on the island without four-wheel drive. Go see Bill Pew at Bill Fisher Tackle for current advice. He's just out of town on New Lane. He’s a wonderful outfitter with years of island wisdom. You can even rent equipment from Bill. If you’re considering a charter, look up Tom Mleczko (http://www.capttom.com/) or Steve Moore (http://users.erols.com/saltfish/), two superb boat guides. |
I caught so much fish I had to truck it .
there once was a man from nantucket whos ......... oops you said clean and appropriate |
There once was a girl at Nantucket,
Who caught tons of stripers (on eels in buckets) Bill Pew was so nice, Broadbill, thanks for advice, She put big stripers' picture in her Lucket. Ok, so locket doesn't have a U in it...... whatever. Thanks guys, I'll do a little good research based on your posts. |

Oh, please and thank you. As you can see in my picture, I've got a heavy load to carry.
Would you mind holding my striper? :heybaby: There's one you guys can use next time!! lol :hee: |
Iwanna, is that a good or bad thing?

Yes, but Iron Mike excels in outstanding fishing -- and catching! THAT is where we differ....
|
Sweetie said with a grin while rubbing her chin,
without info from Striped-Bass I'd skunk it. |
"Thank you, Thank you, you folks are great, thanks. I'll be here all week, try the veal."
Fishsmith...hate to tell you, but I've been skunked all year WITH help from SB.com! |
try the fisherman issues. sf, i have had not caught a damn monster from the shore yet! im sure u have caught other fishes besides stripers?
and iron mike lives in RI. im gonna try hook up with joe lyons in rhody, but a problem being is there is no place for me to crash and store my keeper. and no car. damn it, i gotta come upo with a situation. |
Sweetie,
Sorry to not respond to your post. I have been very busy. I haven't read all the replies yet but I will. Fishing has been great this year. Super steady with a lot of larger fish than I have ever seen. Let me read some of the posts and I will try and answer some questions. I will be here the whole month so hopefully we can get together and put you on some fish. September is awesome with late in the month being even better. |
mmmmmm....... Downey Flake..... less the sprinkles please
|
LOL, did somebody say sprinkles??
Specialist? |
Sweetie, when I go over to Nantucket, I take an Ell over to Jetties beach, sundown, cast close to the rocks(on the right side), (be carefull very slippery) most times I get a NICE FISH
