Last weeks Fisherman Magazine advertised a FREE booklet on knots and rigs, and listed a bunch of tackle shops where you can pick them up. Looked worthwhile...

knot site

Go on to the Hatteras Outfitters site.
Click on the knot link on the left side menu.
They have enough there to cover all your needs and then some.

Does anyone use a DOUBLE palamar?

What is the difference between the double and "single?"

Van 07-31-2003 07:12 AM

Double palomar, Why bother?

I have never had a palomar break. Its easy and strong.
Thats what I tie 90% of the time.

Van,

The reason I ask is because of braid. I tie the palomar as well but have heard that knots slip with braid and that a dobule palomar should be used.?.?.?

I plan on tying a snap-swivel on the end of my braid and will hope for the best, unless I can figure out how to tie a double. Then I may try that. Can't be too safe I guess.?.?.?

Thanks,
Rob

Oh,

I don't use braids so I don't know what is preferred.
I do know that knots can slip with it. Maybe the double is needed for that. I guess test them well before they go into the water.

I have been having trouble finding a good knot for hybrid line, it is so slippery the tag end goes right through the knot when i cinch it. I test every knot at my work bench and sometimes use a scale to see the break strength.

Good idea! Thanks for the tip.

I use what is called a Trilene knot and have never had it slip with braids (Fireline, Power Pro, Stealth). Its easy to tie and strong. I think it is also referred to as a double uni knot.

Hi Buzz_ard

Yes I do on ocation fish some spots along there. I have a few spots that seem to produce well at specific tides or time of year.
