Enviro-tex problem
 

I have been using this epoxy for years now with little to no problems. All of a sudden the epoxy is separating on the plug while spinning and dries with brae spots and pooling. I have been using several different airbrush paint. Tried using another box of E-tex but didn't change anything. Seems to be mostly on the white paint so I will be going back to Createx. They dried nice and hard only with the epoxy all over the place. Has anyone experienced this before? thanks

I have. I found a little scuffing of the white and then a layer of clear spray paint solved it.

thanks Nebe, I was thinking of trying that but thought it may be to smooth to grab. Will try it, thanks

Also if you paint and through wire before envirotex , oils from your hands will cause this

I would recommend using envirotex's own clear coat

A long time ago I got ahold of some gortex thread and gave it a try on a rod. No matter what I did the epoxy-rodbond and flexcoat both pooled up. so for the heck of it I sent both a sample of the thread. The reply was that silicone is used as the release agent for many hi tec threads and plastic containers. Once it gets on the coated surface the epoxy will not bond there at all. They told me to try a different batch of mixing cups and do another test on a section of the thread to see what happens. They also sent me some new finish to use in my test. Low an behold it was the mixing cups that had the silicone on them. I stopped using those cups and went back to the ones I used before. No more problems. Haven't had a separation or bonding problem on a rod or a plug since then. I only use cups that come from rod shops or medical supply houses. Both are silicone free. Never from a craft shop. Fisheyes, no different than painting a car.
Wash with a prep sol/ wax & grease remover solvent.

E-Tex Problems
 

Thanks everyone for the replies. It all makes great sense. I was sooo focused on the paint that I never really looked at contamination. Will be collecting everything I need this week. Will post my results. Thanks again.
