San Antonio fishing

Hey guys I'm heading to Texas for the first time may 4th to the 7th for an Air Force Graduation. Just wondering if any of you guys may have been stationed in the area or may have lived there. I've done some research and it seems catfish and rainbows are the main stocked fish down there as well as a ton of bass/crappie ponds. I got the ok to bring my travel rod from the better half, if anyone has been down there any info would help. We're gonna have quite a bit of downtime so I bribed her with a bbq picnic and a little fishing. Thanks in advance

There are couple decent spots right on base!

Lake Braunig,Calaveras,Medina and Canyon are the major lakes close by.

Braunig is the closest by far to the base as far as big lakes go.LM Bass, hybrid stripers, redfish and corvina as well as catfish. And yes plenty of camping/picnicing areas.

Awesome thank you so much. I plan on bringing a 7ft medium action rod with a stradic 5000 12 lb mono. Good to know I can pack a few metals, a few plastic swimmers and some soft plastics. I really appreciate the advice because I was going in blind even reading up on things!
