How does anyone deal with coming back from Cape Cod?
Spent 8 days camping in Eastham. Spent a lot of time at Head of The Meadow beach in Truro and at First Encounter in Eastham...mini golf, riding bikes on the trail which cut through the campground, ice cream, Orleans Firebirds baseball games (Cape Cod League), did a lobster trip out of P-town, saw huge seals while watching boats unload at Chatham Fish Pier, 9 year-old did a lot of body-boarding. Only one small wrinkle, it was howling the day I booked a fishing trip out of P-Town, so that got cancelled. Other than that, it was beyond awesome. Great restaurants. Fun at Arnolds, awesome pizza and ice cream at Savory, tried this bbq joint on rt6 in Wellfleet near Marconi, THAT was awesome. Ate 500 oysters while out there. Breakfast sandwiches at Nauset Market were fantastic.
Back to work tomorrow, where at some point I will bury my head in my hands and weep. Amazing, amazing place. Could see retiring there. |
Nice
Head of the Meadow brings back a lot of great memories. I hope you took them to Longnook and Balston too. My all time favorite family picture is at Head of the Meadow. I am jealous. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |

Going for 10 days in 2017, already starting the countdown. Man oh man, what a place. |
It sure is a great place and I love summer but give me September. Less crowds and beautiful weather. Glad you had fun.

Jim, so happy you had a great time here...
I didn't know what I really had until I retired... Took it for granted, what a dummy! :smash: Even with the questionable people that come over the bridge every morning.... See post 4 |

My hart and soul belongs out there, you have hit all of the stops when you came, glad to hear the kids loved it but how about the boss was she happy as well?
The reason I ask is my wife loves York Beach ME. I too also enjoy York, people, shops food but the fishing is tough to dial in. I want the Cape she wants York I'm a blue coller worker and can't flip the bill to buy in both places. Torn. 5/0 Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
I thought for sure this thread would be about traffic. :D

My wife loves the cape. She (and I) also loves the White Mountains of New Hampshire, we love to hike and canoe up there. But I think if pressed, we would both pick the cape. |
With traffic on Rt 6 backing up to exit 6 on Saturday and Sunday It's hard to leave

I try to get down every chance I can get. If it makes you feel worse, I was on my way there to take a Sous Chef job at a pretty famous restaurant in the 90's, and stopped in Burlington, MA on the way for another interview. I never really "left" the interview and started work the next day.
I can get to Wellfleet in two hours from Waltham, so I try to go for at least two weeks in June, then again weekends in September every year. I feel like I get as much time in as I need. I have lots of good friends at the Cape, some are gypsies, like marky, the Kulis brothers, and me, really. Long term vacationers, like 5/0 and TTB, but I never see those guys, and fun residents like Guppy, Bruce, and Rich Wood. My problem is that the fishing heats up on the North Shore at the end of June, and I can be there in 45 minutes. Makes for easy day fishing. Maybe Mom and Dad will be selling the Bomba compound in two years and make the move full time. If that happens, the die will be cast. I will spend way more time down there, and find a way to parlay a little bigger boat. |

I still have yet to fish the outer cape beaches .. anyone wanna go? |
Huge Cape Cod fan. Vacationed in East Harwich for years. Last year we tried Dennis. This year we are going to Brewster. Each town is great. We are a Bay family now with a little one. At low tide all the way out it feels like you are on another planet. Can't wait for August. I love the BBQ joint on Route 6. Love all the seafood everywhere you look. The fishing can be fantastic too.

I have to say, going to a Cape Cod League baseball game was a terrific experience. Great level of baseball, cheap, you are right next to the action, locals root for the home team...just what a summer afternoon should be. New England sure is a great place. We are so, so, so lucky. I am friendly with a family in my town, from miserable Africa, they own a convenience store. They always tell me, that they can't imagine being so lucky as to be born anywhere in the US, but particularly the New England coastal areas. I guess it's easy to take something for granted when it's been handed to you on a silver platter. |
