Shiny new 4,900 squre mile monument in New England
President Barack Obama has created a 4,900 square mile no-go zone for commercial fishing and other activity off the coast of New England as the first-ever Atlantic marine monument,
Under the monument designation, commercial fishermen have 60 days to depart from the area. Lobster and crab fishermen have been given a seven-year phase-out provision. Recreational fishing will continue to be allowed. Map of effected area |
Wow. He actually did something in 8 years even though it seems like peeing on a forest fire.

I think it's kind off sad.
With all the government and tree huger involvement with sharks and seals along the Cape shore eating fish the small boat fishers have to travel a long way to catch a days pay. Ihave a young grandson that is making those 2-3day trips from shore just to make ends meet since there are no fish close. Thanks Mr President I'm sure the area will be used with all kinds off government grant money . Kinda like a playschool. Yes I am pissed |
sorry men you cant trust Commercial interests when it comes to the Sea or any other resource History has shown they are not capable os sustainbility just the mighty dollar ... dont blame it on the seals or the sharks or the POTUS... its abig ocean Boat fishers have to travel a to catch a days pay. due to their history they clear cut an area and move on.. not unlike the whalers of 1700 hundreds
terms of number of vessels and whales killed, the peak was reached in 1852, when 220 ships[17] killed 2,682 bowheads. Catches declined, and the fleet shifted to the Sea of Okhotsk in 1853-54. Whaling there peaked in 1855-57, and once that area began to decline in 1858-60, they returned to the Bering Strait region. |

If you don't think this is just the first step to what will eventually include recreational fishing, and in more than just the canyons, you are delusional....IMO
Cashes Ledge was originally in this but was not included in the signed legislation. Just a matter of time before each area gets its own group of looneys to put forth such legislation to your fishing hole.... |
