Good read.

FYI
The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission voted yesterday to increase the allowable Menhaden catch by 6 to 7%. Could have been worse I suppose. Judging by lack of comment or concern on the internets, very few even care.

http://www.app.com/story/sports/outd...es=og.comments Vote to maintain current levels went down like this: ME: No NH: Yes MA: Yes RI: No CT: Yes NY: No NJ: No PA: Yes DE: No MD: No Potomic River: No VA: No NC: No SC: Yes GA: Yes FL: Yes National Marine Fisheries Service: No Fish and Wildlife Service: Yes Then they voted for the 6 whatever % increase. A modest increase, but almost back to where they needed to make the original 20% cut. So, the usual 'over fish, try to repair and recover, over fish' cycle will continue. smh |
Problem is the latest stock assessment shows the population is healthy and they asre not overfished and no overfishing is occurring. I find the CT vote very hypocritical They have almost no quota so they are counting the directed bait fishery as "bycatch."
