Another sign that you might be getting old...
I was IM'ing a co worker and used the phrase "Jumpin Johosaphat" and she had to look it up to see what I meant.
Boy, I'm glad I didn't throw a "Heavens to Murgatroyd" at her as well.... Yet somehow I feel a little better that my vocabulary is much more expansive that emojees, emoticons and texting shorthand! |
You got me with "Jumpin Johosaphat"; I've never heard that one before. Even looking it up doesn't shed much light on where it came from. I have been known to say "Heavens to Murgatroyd," though i don't remember ever watching Snagglepus as a kid.

We just had a conversation at work yesterday about the older cartoons. What was Mr Magoo's first name? And what was his dog's name?......kid looks at me and asks, who is Mr Magoo?
I said Quincy and McBarker are the answers and Mr Magoo was a cartoon when I was a kid. Those were the best times for cartoons. |
Or who was Phineas J Whoopie?
Or what was a 3DBB? Or who were the Hillbilly Bears, Felix the cat, and ...heaven help us...Betty Boop, Lil Huey and Mighty Mouse? |
I loved Mighty Mouse "here he comes to save the day. Might Mouse is on the way"
|
Reminds me of the time Andy Kaufman lip-sync'd that song on either "Friday" or Saturday Night Live".
|
Thanks I don't feel that old anymore.

Just last year there was a station that broadcast Hop-a-long Cassidy movies on Sunday mornings. and another that showed Sherlock Holmes movies.
Heck, even the Stooges have been replaced with Patriot All Access, because having Patriot news stories on Thursday, Friday and Saturdays at Prime Time just wasn't enough... Thankfully I can still find some shows that make me laugh, like "Night Court" and "Andy Griffith". |
A couple years ago two of my younger techs (early 20s) were screwing around throwing stuff at each other. I walked by saw it and said "Does this look like romper room to you #^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&#^&s?" They looked at me clueless and asked what was romper room? They got a "get the #^&#^&#^&#^& back to work!" as I walked away feeling old..

i said "OKIE DOKIE" to a 30 something cashier at the tractor supply store
and she thought it was a very cool saying having never seen porkie before. |
:jester: You could all appear young if you don't tell them the back story how it's an old saying from a 1930's cartoon... LOL... pretend its something new that you "overheard" some other teenagers saying. Maybe you will start a new trend...
