Wind, Surf and Small Stripers
With the wind from the West at 15+ fly fishing has been a challenge the last couple of days in Cape Cod Bay. When I first arrived at my spot yesterday a nearby creek continued to drain with the last of the outgoing. The surf was 3-4 feet at times. Between the outgoing creek and the surf good footing was a constant issue. A cast of about 40 feet got out over the first breakers. The outgoing intermediate line I was using didn’t get time to sink before the waves tossed my EZ body green and black fly around. The small bass seemed to like it so I was getting hits on the surface and in the wash. Surface hits, flashes of bass in the wave face, occasional breaking fish and working birds made for a couple of good days.
