Late April / Early May on Vineyard
I have a wedding to attend on the Vineyard on April 29. Will probably get out there a couple days before as my wife is in the wedding. Is it worth bringing some gear and giving the beaches a shot for schoolies, or is it too early to be worth it? Was thinking maybe the south facing beaches near openings. Maybe see how quick the spring warms up. Never fished out there before. Thanks.

The schoolies were in strong during that time-frame at S. Beach last year. You'd be coming off the new moon in late-April, too...

Not easy to get to those openings and a good chance they won't be open even if you can.
Menemsha creek might be a better bet. It leads to the island's main herring run. A fly rod is the way to go. White perch at the head of the big salt ponds is also a reportedly a good option. |
Squid.

Tashmoo
Josh, the famous worm hatch takes place during this time frame. Access to Tashmoo can be had very easily.

thanks guys. should have time on Saturday and Sunday morning to wet a line if I'm not too hung over.

Quansoo is a good spring bet if the cut is open

Enjoy your time with your family & friends...too early to waste time that could be better used to make cookies for the jar.
Explore the island if you can...drink some ale, use your rod, just not to fish with, ...she'll be nervous, happy and giddy.....help her enjoy her time there. |
Wife's a bridesmaid so she'll be tied up with that all weekend. I'll have plenty of time on my hands. Done this before. Girls, at least mine, are nuts with this bridesmaid thing. It's pretty much fish or sit in a bar all day for me until the wedding starts.
