Handsome!
Is that a prime coat on the under wrap? Nice job |
Yeah, I really like the purple. That came out well.

Very nice. You are right about translucency. When using regular nylon when finishing depending on the blank color and thread color choice sometimes you almost get this 3D effect. Thing is you always don't know what to expect and first are disappointed of the bleed thru. Then when you look at it again your like wow that is cool.
I see looking at the pics some Irish Pendants hanging. Did you flame and burnish the wrap after trimming to get rid of that tag end to make your finish better without having to knife off later? That purple should darken nice when finishing. |
i usually go thru once or twice looking for issues. anything not addressed then will get straightened out after the first coat.
the thread is the last of my gudebrod nylon - 50, cobalt blue. i think i have maybe one more rod left on the spool and that's it unless i come across some more. |

Damn. Makes me want to puke when I look at my rods.

Looks perfect to me.
I have used almost the same design on many of the rods I have done, just one more (3) single trim bands on the body. What do you use for finish? |

Drew very neat work. Did you put a final coat of finish on the underwraps then wrap the guides and do your coats just on the thread portion? I do it that way at times particularly finishing small guides to minimize epoxy build up under the frame. Kinda like finish a single wrap guide w/o an underwrap. I also like wrapping a high contrast overwrap over an epoxied underwrap whether a first coat or second to pack the thread tight against itself to help eliminate voids. BTW , I miss using Guidebrod thread. I have some thread left from 40 yrs. Still fantastic. The lt. Blue you used looks powder blueish? If you need some colors I'll check in shop . I have 4 oz spools sitting.

thanks. yes, i always apply finish to any underwrap that i do, makes the next one a bit easier and neater. the light blue is fuji thread, i like their stuff but not a lot of color options. thanks for the offer on the gudebrod. i have a ton of older stuff as well, just down to the last of my 50/cobalt. you can still find some stuff with some looking online too.

Thanks on the fugi tip. So you do the underwrap again when coating the guide wraps?

Recently I started doing the same. 2 Coats Threadmaster lite on underwraps 1 coat of lite on guide wraps then either 1 or 2 coats of high build ThreadmasterI pending final appearance.
