good sea bass action in Buzzards Bay
1 Attachment(s)
Took my 10 year-old out of Mattapoisett at 6 AM. We limited out easily with fish to 5.5 pounds, threw back a ton of keepers. All on jigs, never caught one on a jig before. No bait. And caught a few near the surface, I have never caught one that wasn't on the bottom.
This is a crappy photo. They are beautiful, beautiful fish. Thanks for the suggestion (folks here suggested this fishery), would love to make this an annual trip. |

Photo of another fish, you can see this jigs we used. Very light tackle, tons of fun.

What was the depth were you were fishing? Been thinking of trying again although I'd thought it was getting too late.....at least for upper BZ bay.

Great, thanks. Regency Suites in North Dartmouth, 10 minutes from the ramp. Just under $100, very nice. |

Did you get out for stripers during the week at all? |

Amazing to eat. I fried some, baked some, made chowder with some (used the carcasses to make great stock), and my favorite - blackened fish sandwiches in a cast iron frying pan. |

We were out there yesterday morning...gorgeous day
First Sea-Bass was the biggest....I ask my buddy to grab the net (the fight/action made me believe it could have been a sizable fluke,)....No Fluke, ...Super-sized seabass...yaye! My buddy nets em'...the sea-bass comes loose in the net, leaving the hook stuck in the net. I take the net from my buddy so he can get back to fishing...I'm dikking around gettin' the hook free.....the seabass does a couple of tail-kicks, manages to hop out of net...bounces off seat, then handle, then splash.....involuntary C&R. Great fight on light tackle. I highly recommend this fishery to those who haven't tried it yet. Super fun, great for the kids...just be leery of the sharp plates above his gills if letting your kids touch em'...they're pretty sharp |
The only down side, and I mean the ONLY down side is that he may presume that every trip will be like that....or he may become committed to improving on those catches (OK, that's not really that bad...)
All in all I'd say he earned a place at the rail for his next trip! You've gotta love when a kid takes to fishing like that...it bodes well for the future of the industry as a whole! It does make you crazy when you can get out-fished by a 10 year old...:bl: |

I picked up a keeper seabass from shore last night on an eel in Buzzards Bay. Totally unexpected.

Never seen them bust bait but caught them on 9er rig(large size) fishing for stripers and have had them chase jigs to the surface from 50ft many times. Great fight for their size
