Looking for a 9' rod for spring
Hi all,
I'm looking to get two rods really. Both in the 9' or less range. One I would like to be able to handle a 30 class fish and the other to catch schoolies. Im jumping the gun so to speak but I'm looking to outfit my future partner in my son. And he will need to go through the paces we all took. That being said, I'm curious about the CTS cb901 & cb903 which I have zero experience with. Hands down I still prefer a one piece rod, but I'm would like the full range of options and go to's from the collective experience here. The purpose is river fishing for SB. Planned reel is either a Shimano 5k or comproble model sealed reel so he can make the bridge to the salt. I want him to learn bucktailing, and small plugs to start. Any help here would be appreciated. Thank you in advance for your response. |
I would stay away from the high end rods until your sure this is what he likes as a hobby, I used a 9 foot ugly stick with a Penn 6500ss for years it was a great rod and reel and landed plenty of quality fish

Like TattooBob said, I don't see the need to go super high end either. |
A 1081L will do all of what you want easily. Build it together this winter. If you need a guide layout I can help.

I use my 1081L from 1/2 to 2/2/.5oz plugsx everything from schoolies to 27lb fish, bonito and albies, blue fish and even throwing some freshwater swimbaits

Lamiglas makes a g1000 series steelhead rod that is fantastic schoolie rod. The g1000 series is the same series as the gsb blank.
I have a couple if you ever want to check them out. |
GLoomis 1084 is/was a sweet 9ft, one pc rod that would cover all the bases, but not sure if they're made anymore.
big $$$$ though |
Thanks guys I'll look into these leads, I'll have to see who around me has some so I can take a few casts. The star rods I have heard good things about.
