Watch Out Here Comes Maria

Not looking good for us to miss this next one. I just watched a couple weather reports and the spaghetti plots are heading right for us. If boaters didn't pull for this one, I'm betting there will be a rush to get out if those plots hold into early next week. Could be a ruff fall for fishing if this pattern holds, might have to dust off my fresh water gear.

I've got a sign in my office is made many years ago. ..that a fellow fisherman that worked here wrote on my white board..He wrote Fall fishing is great.I added..IF... you can get out.....its faded but ive left it up for 20 years... that said.....once this all passes I expect some great fishing to be had by some..storms not bad up my way...windy and misty....nothing over the top...except for the surf and alot of weed and thatch from the marshes.

Just walked the beach below me and it's wild, big surf and foam everyone. Foam is creepy, almost looks like it's breathing as the wind makes it pulse, probably 18" deep in spots.

We'll see.
Most of the models, which aren't work much more than 4 or 5 days out, are showing a curve offshore, but passing close to the 40/70 benchmark....

This and next week are generally the prime time for our mullet run in southern NE. Sigh... "if you can get out" is right on the money. Weather is always the wild card.

I'm not one for sitting still while fishing.. but after this blow... a big wad of clams anchored on the bottom might be the ticket to some opportunistic fish...

These conditions have become my white whale. I'm a surf guy and this time of year was always infuriating to me. I'd be flinging double treble minnows into a 30mph NE wind and wondering why I can get past the bar. Slowly start to understand wind and tide. Move to some sheltered spots, use bucktails more, stop thinking fish aren't around in the wash. I still get humbled and feel like an absolute rookie, but there is something about fishing from shore when some dip#^&#^&#^&#^& local news crew is trying to hype up another storm and getting a few fish while they are trying freak us out and keep us in front of the boob tube. Be safe mi amigos. Know your limits and give yourself a buffer zone from that limit, but get out there and enjoy.

One helluva push of quality fish went through the canal earlier this week. They ought to be down the Elizabeths the next several days and on to Block, RI, and LI thereafter. Frustrating not being able to get at them.

Gonna be real interesting to see what happens. Jose may save us or screw us

Luckily most of the spaghetti plots now have this one going out to sea before it reaches us, but if it stalls like this one it could be another long blow.
