Trees down everywhere here and no power. Wind did not feel as strong on cape at work as it is here.

Looks like a tree fell on this poor guy driving through Newport... Everyone stay safe, batten down the hatches and poor another scotch.

Going over the Newport bridge this morning. A truck almost flipped over right in front of me. Scary stuff. Then later a truck did flip.

Wind is really ramping up around here. Emergency alert asking all to stay inside and off roads. Police station on emergency generator and there are more than a dozen areas in town with trees/wires down, lost power, or both. They are bringing in outside tree services to assist. I had a high of 81 mph on anemometer before cups flew off.... Going to be a doozy of a night... Good luck to all and stay safe

No power here and lost a bunch of siding off the back of the house so that's my weekend plans.

Imagine if the trees had leaves on them.
So they closed the Newport Pell bridge, 1st a car crash, then a truck rollover. So, I have to go all the way around, only to find a tractor trailer rollover on the Braga Bridge. Half hour commute turned into two hours to get home to a house without power. Reached for the Knobs Creek. Then heard a thud. Giant oak tree falls in the backyard. And an hour later, a giant oak in my front yard fell across the cul-de-sac. Town sent out three trucks with chain saws and a giant front end loader with backhoe to clear the street. |
Bet the Knob Creek never tasted so good.

Still out here in Plymouth hope it comes up soon, so I don't have to start searching for ice to salvage two refrigerators full of can't replace goodies (sea bass and tog). We haven't lost power in probably 4 years, so we never really felt the need to invest in a generator, but I'm going to drive over to her moms cottage soon to see if there is power there. If there is I will power up the upright freezer in case I need to move things.
John why does my post from 7:31am this Saturday morning say today, 12:31PM? |

No wind damage at my Narragansett house, just a lot of twigs, but damn happy the sump pump is working.

Noon high tide came in pretty good again. One seawall holed and road to Fort Sewall undermined. Saw four houses with trees on them with major damage, couple others hit with branches, and two garages totally flattened. And that's just what I saw. Nothing to speak of at my house. Whole town tree fell at on of the properties I look after, but missed the house. Out of town contractor brought in to help municipal workers had that gone by 0900. Lots of out of town electrical trucks are here to help with restoring power. At least a dozen poles had to have been replaced, if not more. Have never seen such widespread damage or flooding here before.
I was done with my work/clean up, so drove the better half to her noon dentist appt. but could not get within four blocks as tide was coming into Swampscott fast and they were closing the streets. We called the office and told the staff to get their cars out, NOW.... Ended up going to a restaurant, Hawthorne by the Sea, and had lunch at the corner window watching the high tide come smashing onto Lynn Shore drive and Nahant. Was crazy. Saw two story geysers shooting out of manholes 100 yards back from the seawalls. |
Old Burrillville was spared. Guy checking our house reported no power loss, no trees down. Just some branches.
