There goes the neighborhood!
Thank the fish gods, it's finally happening, my wife and I are moving out of craphole western CT.
We are moving someplace near mashpee/ sandwich :jump: Looking now at rentals in that general area, she will be teaching in mashpee area right near the air force base. I can't wait to live 20 minutes from the canal and fish it twice a year ;) If by dumb luck anyone on here knows of a year round rental or a winter rental in that area let me know... I can't wait to get out and explore new areas to fish, and i can't wait to alby fish every god damn morning 15 minutes from my house! If you see some guy looking lost, with a flyrod, spinning rod, and a black dog, say hi! |
Congrats

thanks guys! I'm so excited to be getting the F out of CT. I can't imagine what western CT will look like in 5-10 years.
Next time you have an event or get together I can actually come, as I won't be 4 hrs away! not to mention this will be huge for me and my art career. SO many good galleries and markets out there for me! Sea run trout this winter! can't wait to freeze my ass off for them! |
Congrats
You’ll love the Cape except for the summer traffic. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Congrats. Maybe we can fish a tide or 2. I know all the places not to catch fish at.

Shouldn’t be a problem getting a nice yearly rental in that area I would think. My godmother rents a nice house right on Santuit Pond in Mashpee. I would google it as I think it’s part of an association. Congrats on the move.

more traffic = more tourists = more sales. just wait and see what I have up my sleeve, next year i'm gonna have the tourists by the balls! and wallet! ;) my wife is a teacher, she will be off all summer, with an actual FULL 2.5 months off in the summer, versus the 1.5 months off she has now. I'm sure like most locals you learn where and when to avoid to avoid tourist traffic... |

I'll tell my wife that its a safety thing. Too many sharks in CCB for me to feel comfortable kayak fishing at night :) I DID FINALLY SEE my first great white this week. I was at nauset beach yesterday AM at like 530 before the flea market, standing on the hill looking down at the water I could make out this HUGE 9-10 ft shadow cruising around! |
Way to bite the hand that feeds you albie, I’m a cape tourist you ain’t gonna get me by my balls🙂 just kidding congrats and good luck. That is some scary chit with mr shark.

Alitbie you sound so much like me, but I absolutely need to get out of central NJ permanently. Between the oppressive heat and high humidity and property taxes (I'd be paying less than a quarter in MA than I do here) that's a win-win in itself. You'll find over time shortcuts around the traffic and the best time to run errends. I've only been a lurker here at best for the past almost two years due to a 15 month, 60 hour a week babysitting gig my wife got herself (and dragged me) into, so no house hunting during that. Then when that ended she went out and got us a new boxer (had to put the other down last October) so at 10 weeks he's almost trained. But in a week we'll be up in W. Dennis in the real estate game fulltime for, well the foreseeable future. Fortunately there's family property where we can stay. At their encouragement I had hoped to buy my relatives out of that property, did diligence got a high appraisal, inspection, but long story short, dealing with family sucks, they turned me down and haven't spoken to me since. No biggie, probably for the best, there's a lot of interesting properties I keep an eye on online we'll be seeing. (Guppy, are there clams in Dinah's Pond???). Feels good to finally participate again here. Sorry so long winded.

doesn't look like we will find a yearly rental right now, gonna have to do a winter rental and just put our stuff in storage for now.
I might be homeless for the last week of august ;) Will trade art for a place to stay for a week. maybe ill convince the wife to spend a week in a yurt at the state park :eek5::eek5::eek5: we are moving for a couple reasons, and its not the taxes. I try not to worry about things I cannot control... we are moving because my wife loves her job but hates her school now. She has been trying to find a new job for the past 3 summers, she almost got a job out on the vineyard but it wound up going to the local girl over her, which is no surprise. the things wrong with my wifes school cannot fit in the library of congress... I'm down to move because as an artist I'll do well on the cape. tons of galleries for me to try to get into (my next adventure...dealing with galleries). There are lots of farmers / artisans / flea markets out there. there are also the artist shacks in orleans and hyannis that i'll probably do as well. hell I do very well at the cheap well fleet flea market, if i can sell 300-2000 dollar pieces of art there I'm pretty sure my work will sell wherever I go To be honest the straw that broke our backs if the constant 24/7 365 days of traffic here. You literally can not get on rt 95 at ANY point in the day without hitting traffic. when its not traffic is CONSTANT road work. we live like 12 miles from greenwich where my wife works, and it takes her 1 hr to get to work, and 1.5 hrs to get home from work every single day... her new commute should be under 15 minutes. we can deal with cape summer tourist traffic because all in all its nothing compared to the daily traffic down here. I don't even want to get started on how bad the fishing is down here. Once our resident fish leave the Housy and the adjacent inshore spots the surfcasting instantly dies. Every spot is so blown out with people its ridiculous. go fish the popular side of the river mouth? have fun with 30 of your new friends every single night. go fish the not as productive side, and you'll have 5 new friends.... the norwalk islands hold their own and are still productive, but I'm kinda over kayak fishing.... and the #1 reason. ALBEEEZZZZ! september is national fish for albies all day every day month! |
Dave, do you still have any prints of your striper oil painting? Also, do you have a website?
|
i have like 4 prints of that painting left, one framed print left. I had some double matted framed prints, those sold at my first 2 markets.
my website sucks. this winter I have to figure out a new setup.. i don't like how you have to click on the original to order prints etc etc from the drop down. i need different sections for originals / prints / framed prints / clothing etc.. https://davidriina.bigcartel.com |
The Moonlight Bass interested in print. size? PM me pls
|
Dude, you would not be able to keep those albie hats in stock during the Derby!
|
Those paintings are exceptional. I love the watercolor medium.

We found a beautiful winter rental about 2 blocks from alby outflow right in falmouth! ;) alby time!
only problem in we move in sept 6, the wife has to be there august 27. we might be homeless from the 25-6th. if you see a couple and their black dog living out of theirs cars for 2 weeks come say hi! ;) :) |

Yessiree! After a year and a half, pro bono babysitting gig is done and I'm getting back to doing the things I want. Just hope I remember how...let's see, when I hold my spinning rod the reel should be on top facing me, right.
