Good trip

I am not talking mushrooms here.
Although I have had a lot of wasted ice and burned fuel I always enjoy my time on the water. Getting out before the sun comes up, going solo or with some old friends. Time on the water is therapy of sorts. What is your favorite part of fishing?

rphud 08-22-2018 03:09 PM

Walking the beach alone at night and finding some fish all by my lonesome. A long walk that is.

Superseded only by putting my sons on fish at Cutty.

That ride out in early am as the sun is poking up on the horizon and the anticipation of that first cast and hookup.

I like watching the sun come up on the water. I like re-connecting with my friends, who I don't see as much as I like, and engaging in merciless ball-busting all day. I like introducing newcomers to the fun of a good day's fishing. I like learning about new fisheries like the spring sea bass run in Buzzards Bay. And I love showing kids a fun day.

Yup

Opposite end of the spectrum is the feeling of coming home with a cooler full of fish and having to clean them all

A few times a year it all clicks in mind body and spirit. Beautiful spots, good friends,a little introspection and serenity.
Why else do it ?

I like that you can empty your mind of everything else and get lost in the water and what's going on in and around it....when I take people they often remark about how surprised they are at how much time went by and how they forgot about everything except what was immediately surrounding them....it's a nice escape...

Yep - being alone but not lonely. All the spirits of my lost friends are with me. Great time to ponder what life is all about with an occasional fish distracting me from time to time.

when you can just feel that your blood pressure is lower than can be recorded by any machine known to man. It's awesome.

Opposites but I miss the pure peacefulness of standing out on a rock at night as well as the exhilaration of a hard sea crashing on you with little solitude

It’s not about the catching but obviously if we never caught anything we would probably stop. I tell people that being in the water when the sun is coming up and nobody around is like having the ocean to yourself. You see things that others don’t witness. It’s like having a full day before your day even begins and no matter how crappy the rest of the day is you have already won. That’s why I can’t fish the canal or the Merrimack river anymore

I am a night owl... I hate the sun and the crowds that come with it, I love the peacefulness of the night... those bright moon lit nights when I can ride the last curl of the wave or cast along the marsh edges without fighting wind or tide or other anglers is what I enjoy most...

Swimmer 08-23-2018 09:11 AM

All of the above

PaulS 08-23-2018 09:47 AM

Just being able to get out. Being out in nature, water, stars, Etc. I especially like shooting stars. Also I find myself fishing more and more with friends vs alone. Which is okay.

Love the responses here. Many have left us but I still have most of their phone numbers stored.

So do I , Cant seem to erase them . Even still have my Moms and Dads .
For me its all about the solitude of the night . Then the beauty of the morning . Every time I am out there , I understand !

Rmarsh 08-24-2018 05:56 AM

Feeling free....and at that moment when i'm leaving the harbor.....hitting the throttle ...getting up on plane and over the first wave... the satisfaction of knowing it started as a pile of plywood and came to exist by my own hands.

Fishing with a couple buddies of mine all night. Spreading out when fishing but sitting and bull chipping telling stories many that have been told before. I swear I get so much enjoyment out of getting ready for trips to block. It’s not for a few weeks but last night I was like a little kid getting reAdy, couldn’t fall asleep thinking about scenarios.

The challenge. Nature’s beauty. Being alone. Fishing with friends. Laughing.

I like the anticipation.

MakoMike 08-24-2018 11:38 AM

Just love the challenge of running the boat and navigating, not to mention the fun of catching fish.

paradoxjim 08-24-2018 12:58 PM

Yeah, I couldn't sleep last night. Taking my son sharking tomorrow - am I remembering everything I need? What if bonito pop up, should I take a few spinning rods and lures? Getting him tied to a shark will make everything feel good in my life, at least for a few days.

Life can get crazy these days. Kids, work, family, etc, but being on the water just winds everything down for a bit. Makes everything a little bit simpler for a bit. The ocean is my happy place, ever since I was a kid.

wdmso 08-27-2018 11:38 AM

fishing is the only thing that gets me really enthusiastic and giddy and excited .. so much so ,, its bizarre nothing comes close.. My wife has also commented on my reactions to fishing compared to going on Vacation .. as baller said"The ocean is my happy place, ever since I was a kid." Same here !!

A related thought from the most widely quoted American author in our nations history. A fascinating guy with many insights.

Henry David Thoreau Quotes. Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

Henry David Thoreau Quotes. Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing that it is not fish they are after.

He misspelled golfing...

Was on the beach today at sun up and in the kayak/bay until 10:30. Tons of peanuts and schoolies with the occasional Osprey.

It does take your mind off of whatever might be causing any stress.
