This wasn't how my day was planned

So, up early, going to hit the surf with my son for his 17th birthday. Then a bunch of other stuff for just he and I as mom spends the day at work. As I'm getting the gear together in the basement i notice a pile of jigs laying on the bench, so I grab then and reach up to hang them and as my hand comes down...BAMM!! SP Minnow dangling from my finger. SON OF A B$%&@!! Not sure how it happened because it happened so fast but it's to the bone and I'm not getting it out. We tried for 30 minutes. Surprising how much a 2/0 VMC can hurt when it's jabbing your bone. Off to the urgent care we went, all is good now. It's starting to bruise and it is tender but otherwise it's fine.

As if the pain isn't enough, it sucks when reality sets in and you realize it's not going to back out....and that you have to push it the rest of the way through. First time it happened to me, there was a 5# blue hanging off the other trebble.
Keep it clean and heal up bud! |
Your screen name is appropriate :). Did they push it through.
|
I think that's a right of passage all fisherman have to go through... I got my stripes a few years ago. :(

^^^ This. It is more memorable when you are wading chest high with a 5# bluefish still on the lure |
Ugh. I feel the pain every time I see a pic like that. I am overdue in getting hooked.

Smokey would have had that thing out, superglued and taped in like three minutes.
Hooks suck. Especially when they are not in fish where they belong. |
Thanks guys, it was pushed through and the barb cut off, then slid back where it came from. A little sore but no where as bad as I was expecting. And we never ended up fishing!
|
Yowser. That stinks. I had one like that with the point of the hook up against the bone in my thumb knuckle. Hurt like heck as they say. Couldn't push it through so he practically sawed my thumb open with the scalpel to get to it. Threads like these still turn my stomach

Been to the ER twice, not fun and you get the strangest looks, as your delicately holding the plug that impalled you, trying hard not to move it.

Alway always remove the plug from the hook when it is attached to you . Less damage to you and easier to finish fishing . If there is a bluefish attached get the blue off first .

A friend had a treble go into his hand. He cut it off flush with his hand and went to the ER. By the time he got there the swelling had swallowed up the hook and they had to butterfly his hand to get it out. Never cut a hook close to the skin.

This is the reason I crush the barbs on everything I own. I get hooked multiple times a year........including while hanging plugs up in the cellar.
And, yes, I lose some fish because of it but overall I enjoy fishing much more when I don't need to worry about being badly hooked myself. |
