Tuna Breaching
3 Attachment(s)
Fished Sunday out of a friends boat and had a great day on tog, matching my personal best with an 11 lber, which damn near pulled me out of the boat. Two very large tuna breached about 100 yards from where we were anchored up, man they were big and what a sight to see. The other site I was happy to see was albies working on the way in and I was lucky enough to hook into three and boy are they fun on light gear. Seen Tuna breach from a distance in buzzards bay on occasion, but up close and personal was cool.
My buddies friend boated a slob trigger fish and I told him two things. First you better have an extremely sharp filet knife to get through the leathery skin and be ready for one of the best eating fish around these parts sometimes. |

I saw tuna breaching one September off the avenues in Gansett. 300 yards or so off shore crashing through a massive school of blues, what a site to see.

Many, many years ago .you could see the boats in the T/tournaments fighting fish from Narragansett , the south shore & beavertail .
about ten ?? years ago I also saw them from Pier 5 & east beach westerly ><> |
Yeah I remember seeing them breach about 15 years ago off the CGH

About every 3 years they seem to make an appearance on the deeper blackfish grounds if the herring are thick. Usually Oct-Nov. Tautog hooked one on a spinning rod for about 15 seconds a few years back while blackfishing and floating a bait for bluefish... |
Tuna breaching of the Gurnet on Monday evening... boy are they big and fast!

I remember following schools of what at the time I thought were tommy cod along the shores of CH, blitzing bait on to the rocks, I was too young to identify them?? Maybe RIRH remembers? One of my last conversations with Crafty, he thought they were pollock? Too long ago to remember....no phones back then, no pictures, only memories now :hs: sorry, :topic: |
