Vineyard Derby Results
Wow! Juniors took down 3 of 8 categories! Anyone hear who got the lucky keys?
|
A 12 yo girl won the car.
My friend and fishing partner "won" the C&R division for striped bass with a 38" fish he caught on 9/16. That it stood for an entire month is a very discouraging testimony to the state of our fishery.....and the people who participate in it. |
Quote from Ted Willaims:
"I do not like fishing tournaments-- not because of what they do to the fish, but what they do to the fisherman".
Specific to the Derby: 1. Eliminate the big sponsors, and the big sponsor prizes. 2. Make a statement to eliminate striped bass from next year's Derby altogether. Such recognition and action by the MV Derby Committee would have impact that the striped bass fishery is valuable way beyond derby level, and the fishery is in trouble. |
Congrats to Art.

here's a prime example.
Derby results thread....second post is about the state of our fishery 3rd post is about banning bass from tournaments. This is where s-b. com is today |
And there is the dilemma
|
start a new forum. "The state of our fishery" and let em have at it in there.

These are folks who are passionate about fishing for striped bass. They are just like you. They wouldn’t be saying anything if the fishing were as good as last year. Or five years ago.or ten years ago,or even 20 years ago. They are so dumb that they wait all winter long dreaming of a tight line with stripes on the end. They have been fishing for them longer than some of these high hookers like ff have been alive. But let’s dismiss their concerns and call the fishery great and call them whiners for being discouraged at the direction the fishery is headed. I believe there will be a moment when we ALL will understand their concerns but the damage will be done. This is no fault of the commercial angler at all. It is simply mismanagement and running a species some old guys love to catch into the ground.

Im not dismissing anyones concerns, just sick and tired of reading about it on everyyyy friggin thread.!
someone could ask a question about 3" storm shad and the post would turn into a barb smashing and how you shouldn't even be targeting schoolies.and the stae of our resource. this is like arguing about climate change. never ending! Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |

The much bigger problem is the carnage that has taken place at the Canal, the SW Ledge off the Block, to say nothing about what happened in the Mid-Atlantic tier of states. If you want to stick your head in the sand and say there is no problem you also believe in the Easter Bunny and Santa Claus. I'm not preaching doom and gloom. I am saying that if the current state of affairs for quota, kill rates etc. is maintain across the entire ecosystem, from Maine to NC, there will be no Stripers left in 10 years Not doom and gloom, FACT! |

Well congratulations to her! That is just awesome! And she caught her bluefish on the last day! I was rooting for Dylan Kadison to hold but it's nice to see a junior win. Dylan will win this eventually I'm sure.
The year I turned a key I was up against 12 year old Molly Fisher and even part of me was rooting for her to win. "The moans could be heard to Menemsha" I think was the quote in the Vineyard Times after the awards. Who won the boat? Congrats to all those who had a chance to go over and even wet a line. It's such a fun event for a great cause. I really miss it. Gonna try to get over next year with my 7 year old for a long weekend.
