Is it "worth" it???
 

Just wondering what you folks think of fishing from shore in a 10 - 15KT NW wind.

Will this push the bait / fish too far out or is it "worth" giving it a shot?

I know that anytime one has a chance to wet a line they should but my time is very limited right now and need to get out when the odds are in my favor. Yeah... Like I can predict that! LOL! ;)

Sure do - not my favorite but you can cast a mile too (just cold when it's 20 knots in late October )

MntBrz1, any wind is good as long as it is coming at you in some direction because it pushes all the bait and fish to you. If the wind is howlin straight at your back, you will get a good cast but alot of times no fish. But either way you can;t catch um if your line isn't in the water. You have nothing to lose by trying!!!!!

It depends on where you are fishing!?

if you are fishing an outflow like a river, breachway or estuary, the wind may not matter. The fish will be there because the outgoing tide brings bait to them. I also try "sheltered" areas like a salt pond when the wind is offshore. The wind will not have an effect on the fish in the pond

Just wanted to mention that I will be fishing from a beach in the Old Saybrook, CT area. Some rocks but no major jettys, ...

I think its worth a shot!

NW wind always pushes the big boys in at Race Point. Looks like We'll have that on Sunday am:p :p

if it pushes the fishes into a small pool, it confindes them in. so no long cast is nessecary for me. john, no one can cast a mile. when oct comes, im gonna have to cast a mile for cod.

Me and the #^&#^&#^&#^&man (other bald Bomba to be named later)
have fished in winds up to 20-25 knots.
Me and Mikey fish in absurdly windy conditions...
Put the rod in the water and they will come, it all depends on the spot, though.
Mikey loves the NW (because he fished in homotown), for that spot it's great.
NW @ Naps, ahh you guys be the judge.
Read your spot, but I'm guessing Saybrook fishes well in a 15 knot wind on the incoming from a jetty.
Or 10 knot NW on outgoing.

I dont think its so much the how much the wind is blowing, its which way the wind is blowing. My Dad fished RI shores for years and has caught tons (literally) of bass. He tells me if the wind is NW or NE...stay home. But....I disagree to some extent, as I said earlier, you can fish outlflows or salt ponds.
The harder it is to cast...usually the better the fishing is.
