Camping on beaches

Why must a vehicle camping on cape beaches be self contained?
Why is a tent that I put up on my truck bed not enough?
What if I bring my own porto-john (5galbucket with shagseat)?
What about one of those freestanding fireplaces?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Check the beach you want to use, as to what their definition of self-contained is... I don't think the 5 gallon bucket will fly anywhere, anymore, put a porta potty usually will. Some want it mounted in some kind of fashion, to the floor. Several suburbans where I go have the SC sticker, permanent bed, porta potty bolted to floor, 2 burner coleman, and lots of fresh water. The self contained fireplace usually is AOK with the beach police.
You can build almost anything to satisfy the rules.
