Strange fish sighting.
I wish I had a picture, I was hauling pots this morning and a small fish 6 maybe 8" followed the line up staying on the down current side, cute little guy, had black and white bands, almost like a sheeps head, very pronounced, but his body shape was like a cunner.
He took off as soon as I pulled the pot onto the sorting platform so no picture. Alot of sea life this morning, seems they all know summer is coming to a close. |

Sounds like maybe a black drum. Caught plenty in the Carolinas. It’s a bit north of their range, but not completely out of the question. With global warming they may be headed north too.

Definitely not a black drum, shape is all wrong, looks like a juvenile yellow perch, but black and white, I'm positive Clammer nailed the Id Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |
Sounds like a Rudderfish. I've never seen one but I just googled it and now being an expert I can make the call. Nice job Clam.

Caught several on flys near a bouy two years ago near Stonington. Banded rudder fish. Cute little guys.
