Strange fish sighting.

I wish I had a picture, I was hauling pots this morning and a small fish 6 maybe 8" followed the line up staying on the down current side, cute little guy, had black and white bands, almost like a sheeps head, very pronounced, but his body shape was like a cunner.
He took off as soon as I pulled the pot onto the sorting platform so no picture.

Alot of sea life this morning, seems they all know summer is coming to a close.

Sounds like maybe a black drum. Caught plenty in the Carolinas. It’s a bit north of their range, but not completely out of the question. With global warming they may be headed north too.

Water temp here is 58..I've caught black drum, and reds
Definitely not a black drum, shape is all wrong, looks like a juvenile yellow perch, but black and white, I'm positive Clammer nailed the Id

Sounds like a Rudderfish. I've never seen one but I just googled it and now being an expert I can make the call. Nice job Clam.

Caught several on flys near a bouy two years ago near Stonington. Banded rudder fish. Cute little guys.
