Reliable Old Tools
 

Looking to try some of the newer grinder shaping discs to supplement my chain saw carving work and you suddenly realize how long you have had your Makita grinder when nobody offers a 4" shaping disc for it. Called Makita and got tech support on the phone in one minute, as reliable as their tools. Decided to break down and order a new 4-1/2" Makita grinder and some Kutzel shaping discs, which will be nice to have in addition to the coarse sanding discs I run off the other grinder.

Who are your go to brands? I still have Craftsman drills, cut off saws and circular saws that are running fine and 30 years old, but do like my Makitas.

I’ve been upgrading my stuff to Dewalt as much as possible. I do have the Makita grinder and it works well.

I do like my cordless Dewalt drill, I use it most of the time, unless I need more power.

I like Makita and Porter Cable.

A friend of mine and were talking about this a couple of weeks ago.
We both spent years relying on tools and the guys we had using them.
Consensus at +65 is the amount we use them they ain’t gonna wear out, the batteries will die before the guts and probably before us.
Your results could vary.
I’m buying Ryobi and not worrying too much.
I know I won’t kill it because of overuse.

36 grit, 4 1/2” , flap wheel grinder disk,,,, I think would be helpful to your artistic ability....
they eat fiberglassing up....

I’ve seen a disk that has chain saw perimeter..... scary...

Plus the colors match your tool belt.

I look for the Made in America logo first... Not always an option...

That said, I like my 18 volt Makita drills and impact drivers. And the portable Makita table saw is a beast. Most used are; Milwaukee Sawzall and hammer drill, Porter Cable circular saw, compressors, framing gun and couple finish guns. Dewalt miter saws (3), jig saw, and planer, Fein oscillating saw, Hitachi grinder, Jet bandsaw, joiner and lathe, Craftsman drill press, and Powermatic table saw, While I have not tried the knock offs, there is nothing like the Festool Track Saw, HEPA vac, RA sander, or Domino cutter. I have more invested in tools than I do in the boat or vehicles.

Got one, that was one of the early accessories I picked up.

That's a juicy list, I think your name should be changed to Ross the Toolman. I've found my portable 1 ton vice from harbor freight to be invaluable for clamping and holding logs for some initial rough cuts, unfortunately on slip too close and your sharpening your saw blade.

Actually I try and match my big blue eyes.

We have pretty much switched over to all cordless dewalt tools. Pretty sure battery compound miter and table saw be in soon as well. Have to spend the extra money and go contractor level on the dewalt stuff from a real store and not depot as they actually last.
Just so many big dewalt batteries and tools at this point that commited to dewalt and too much to switch brands.
The cordless nail guns (framer, finish, brad nailer). Have been a gift from gods. No more dealing with/ listening to compressor and hassle of air hoses. Worth every penny
For big stuff esp framing still break out corded tools esp skills saw as easier with electric power.

Anyone who has a company in this trade is going to have the same if not more. I've just kept adding tools according to the demands of the jobs I get. And the tools better be making money to be worth the investment. For instance, just had to add two come alongs to the one I already had and an additional bottle jack to lift and straighten a garage that was falling down.
