Northern Lights Tonight here!

Supposed to be visible here in southern New England. Around 10pm I think.
Looking for a good link......

Look North. 10pm-1am best window. Hope these clouds clear out a little... Low on horizon, not overhead.

Can I see them in my sleep?

Hookedagain 12-09-2020 08:22 PM

This is on my bucket list. Not here, but to go see the Northern Lights in Norway. I will check it out tonight for sure.

Gonna try around 11 but prob. too many lights where I live.

Saw them in all their glory while flying out of Anchorage one September night long ago. Very surreal. All I will see from here are trees.

Anchored in the mouth of the Bouquet River on Lake Champlain, 30 plus years ago.
Sunset came and so did the mosquitoes. Pulled up anchor and sailed across the lake. A mile from any light and the whole sky was flashing. Most amazing sight I’ve seen, totally out of scale.
Went for a long time, I’m heading out now to see if they appear

I went out at 11 planning on walking down to the beach but saw the clouds and went back in the house. Will try again tonight.

Will try tonight. Seen them twice while surfcasting, once on the backbeach of Cape Cod and once on Block Island. One of the highlights of my gazing into the heavens while casting.

Is that when the mother ship was picking you up or dropping off? :humpty:

Clouds too much , maybe more cooperative tonight.

Best northern lights I've seen is a toss up between a late October Quonny Breachway 15 years ago and and early October Big Bridge / Little Bridge during the Derby on the Vineyard twenty years ago.

They can be very good down here late fall when it is COLD.

Western Mass about 30 years ago. Farm at 1650 ft elevation on Vt border.
Northern lights were awesome. Neighbor came over (college educated) in tears "it's the end of the world!"... oh boy...

Earlier tonight at 4-7pm, maybe if cloud cover is lighter.

PaulS 12-11-2020 08:06 AM

went out about 10:15 and walked to the beach. Saw some lights north of me and thought they were the Northern lights. Then realized it was just a house in Bridgeport burning.

nightfighter 12-11-2020 08:26 AM

Due to the lack of mention last evening by the weather guy who covered it the night before, I believe this was a one night event.

DZ 12-11-2020 09:37 AM

Went out after the game - nothing but a glow from Fall River.

Pete F. 12-11-2020 09:59 AM

I think to see the Northern Light this far south you need a couple things
Little light pollution
Clear sky
High pressure
Solar Storm
I know when I saw them it was a clear night with a light northerly breeze.

Went out at midnight. Saw stars. Very dark at my house. No lights in sky.

Here’s a light pollution map
I think it matters mostly to astronomers
Cuttyhunk, the outer cape and Block are fairly dark
