Shrink wrap grip to reel seat
Doing my first build and am doing shrink grips for upper and lower grips. Do you overlap the shrink material regardless of what it is over the reel seat?? Or try to get it close then run a thread band?? On all my
Other rods it looks like you over lay the shrink material over both sides of the reel seat and then tape and run a small strip of epoxy over the joint. Curious if I’m on track or not |
Is the reel seat already installed?
I have thoughts and will include a picture soon... Billy’s the guy for this...:-) IMO |
The real seat is installed in fact I did already install the grips did a spiral cork tape under wrap with smooth shrink over it. It came out good and from other things I’ve read if I tape off both sides of the seam and use the finish I will use on the threads in this area should be fine. New to this whole thing but it’s already blowing my mind. I’m sure I can find a million things online but appreciate the insight from this site first and foremost

Higgie nice to see your building those blanks. I shrink wrap a couple different ways. On a standard reel seat you can bring it flush with front of seat then wrap w/thread or run it up the front metal hood. Use contact cement on metal hood then ahrink.on wet. Heat will cure it. Makes a nice transition. On the ergonomic reel seats u can do either way too. Flush or run it up the seat about a 1/4". On the rear u can run it over the first thread or flush then thread. If u need a picture I'll e mail u some pics.
