Went through the canal when I was in the Navy aboard a cruiser in the early 70s.Very weird place. It was like going down a ditch on a beach. And not alot of room.

Amazing a ship that large can get blown around by a sand storm like that.

The wind was only blowing 30 mph. Car carriers go through the CC Canal when the wind is honking 25-30 SW, and those things are like a huge sail. It's going to come out that the pilot effed up, I predict.

I hope my new boat electronics isn’t on there .....;-)

Yea but loaded you're talking hundreds of thousands of square feet of sail :hihi:

Just saw another view on TV. Tugs look tiny compared to the ship.
They are gonna need more assistance from shore for leverage, somehow...

Or someone has an agenda. And it is not a constructive one.

Saw a picture yesterday of an excavator digging from shoe around the hull of the ship. It literally looked like he was digging a foundation for a skyscraper with a spoon.

That would be a cool job to be in charge of, AND make a ton of dough!

My first call would be to Dubai. Hello. I need to speak to the Prince in charge of the earth moving equipment that built all your artificial islands in Abu Dhabi.... Yes. Is that equipment available for, say a month, depending on what you can let me lease?

This log jam is going to cause an economic catastrophe if it isn’t cleared up in the next few days. So much shipping goes through there it’s nuts. I bet oil prices pop over it as well.

Don’t hold your breath. Only a 4ft tide range there I think

Gonna take a while but a salvage ship or multiple with beach gear is what is needed. One ship can pull close to 100 tons, compared to a tug that can get about 1 ton per 1000 shaft horsepower..

Looks like the bow is dug in nearly 20 feet. They’re going to try and dredge it out. I think I read somewhere the economic impact to trade is about 400 million dollars an hour.

The rumor is a steering casualty and the wind.

No Guppy

But I did just fly home from Diego Garcia and flew over the suez and saw this mammoth stuck also flew near some pyramids

That is one of the biggest container ships in the world. I’m sure they had some kind of gear failure and not just wind.

Bigger is not always better.

As of 15 minutes ago, she's sitting in the middle of the Great Bitter Lake, being inspected, surrounded by tugs, and a southbound convoy of container ships is moving through the section of the canal where she was stuck. A Dutch salvage team somehow managed to get her free earlier today, without having to off load any containers---of which she was carrying 18,000.
