what is the reason that many of the items related to boats / water / etc ..............come with screws/nuts & boats that are not S/S

especially on trailers ><><:rollem:

It’s like buying strawberries at the super market,,, they go bad by the time u get them home...

Put a magnet to stainless hose clamps,,, WTF

Trailer lug nuts , 2 seasons and done...

At our age we shouldn’t have to worry about it... LOL

My view of this is that the Woodstock generation is responsible. They were the ones in charge of the companies when they sold all the manufacturing to China, to maximize their bottom line. And they are still in charge of many companies that have jacked their material (lumber) prices and are using the pandemic to gouge the rest of the country. Majority of one percenters are the Woodstock generation. They sold us out to line their pockets....

I think you hit the proverbial nail on the proverbial head..and you probably wouldn't mind as much if it had a little quality to it, I had a box of bolts last week, made "over seas"... out of 100, about 20, had threads on one side, the other was round stock, how does that even happen, they were 1/4 X20 … and fully 1/3 of the remaining bolts wouldn't thread the nut on.. terrible..

My boat trailer was made in 1977, same as my boat... they made things to last back then...of coarse, now, I've replaced just about every fastener with stainless ones... every bolt gets, Loc-tite,grease or never-sieze…

they want us to recycle everything, I guess becoming one with the earth BEFORE you are done with it is what they are thinking about.

Paint all the hardware with dielectric grease or if it's probably not coming out "ever" hit it with liquid electric tape.

what about switching to s/s the 1st installation

Why don,t they use S/S for studs & nuts on trailer wheels .I,m guessing that ss is more likely to snap ><>

it all depends on the heat treat... stainless drive shafts in outboards dont snap... the problem aside from coast, with stainless hardware is it tends to gall, then it will snap, the threads need plenty of lubrication and they dont like power tools ...I use stainless bolts and brass fasteners, never seize and never a problem.. for the hubs I remove the lug nuts each fall when I service the bearings, soak them in oil, then apply never seize to the studs and hub face...a little extra care saves big headaches latter.
