Sorry to hear of the loss of your friends Wayne.
I really don't have much planned this weekend. Working a ton of hours lately so I think I am going to slow down a bit for the weekend. |

Remembering my Father-in-Law...........first generation Portuguese American...drafted into the Air Force at age 19.....fought in the Pacific WWII .....aerial gunner on a B17....27 bombing missions.......survived a fiery runway crash that killed part of his crew. Married a girl he met while stationed in Texas.
He once told me ....the navigator on the plane was considered the most important person on the crew.........too many flights never returned safely do to lack of fuel. |
Nobody cares when we served back in 66.

Yes, I remember. Never forgot how poorly Vietnam veterans were treated back then. Totally unfortunate to have to fight a very unpopular war; a great historical wrong.

Back in '67 I was too young to serve or be drafted but my older brother signed up for duty. There was a guy from my neighborhood, who we all looked up to, he was born in Sao Miguel, Portugal. Fastest, strongest and most athletic guy I'd ever met. He enlisted in the marines in '66.....sadly shortly after his deployment to Vietnam, he was killed in action. We all would be speaking a different language if it wasn't for your generation. Wish you well. 5/0 Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |

I take daily care of my elderly Dad.
Korean War vet, Marines. He never really spoke much about his time over there. The last few days he did, telling me about his friends who lost their lives there. His eyes were red rimmed and teary, as mine. I can’t imagine what the young men and women of all wars experienced. I’m forever grateful for all who have and will serve. You are the best of us. Thank you. Posted from my iPhone/Mobile device |

You guys got me going..... mid late sixties, me and buddies are are on are bar stools as usual:-) ,,,, it’s Friday after work and on the tv there the news about an anti war rally at 4C’s ,,, someone pipes up and says let’s go beat on some college kids.... some of are buddies was over there and a couple of us me included had our draft notices,,,
Off we went the next morning, beer cans flying out the windows, going way too fast, blew a tire just before a bridge abutment and thought for sure that the end,,, just missed it! The rest of the day went like that,,, fist fights, cops ,,, and beers... Sorry for the long story, thinking of the friends I lost.... I’m sure you’ll agree they are no less deserving than any, any that have served in any war.... Amen :-) |
Piemma, thank you for your service. Today always reminds me of the lifeguard at Dunes Beach when I was about 8 years old in 1962 or 63. Carl Myllymaki. He would pay me 25 Cents to help him pick up trash at the end of the day. He could carry two trash cans at the same time! I thought that a tremendous feat of strength. He was KIA while giving his replacement a tour of the area 10 days before he was supposed to rotate home. Carl's brother was my bball coach and always road me hard, knowing that I was one of Carl's kids at the beach...
Anyway, I always am proud of those who serve(d). My nephew was just promoted to Colonel in the Corp; and his son is a Marine PFC. Very proud of them too... thanks for listening, and a toast to all that serve. |
