Great freshwater charter in CT

My middle son's school had a day off this week, so I took the day and did another trip with CT freshwater guide Paul Mueller, who also fishes the Bassmaster Elite tournament series when not guiding.

It's really a fun, enjoyable trip for kids (I love it too). He uses his electronics to find schools of perch, crappie, and smallmouth.

In 4 hours, we boated 4-5 smallies (my son landed one about 4.5 pounds), and probably landed 30-40 yellow perch, white perch, and crappie. Kept enough for one delicious meal.

I didn't know there was such a diverse and dependable fishery in Connecticut's lakes. And he's a terrific guide, very laid back and friendly and fun. A terrific trip for kids, only 4 hours and very steady action. A wonderful fishery.

That's an understatement!

This guide also targets carp in the spring, gets fish to 20 pounds. Gotta give that a try next year too.

What a nice smallmouth. That yellow perch is no slouch. Looks like a great trip.

We did it twice this year, it was really something. I could see buying a little 15 foot aluminum with a tiller, just for this fishery. And the perch is much better eating than i was expecting, almost as good as fluke.

He has this really cool Garmin electronics setup, you can see fish in a 75 foot radius around the boat. Saw it for the first time when we went ice fishing with this guy.

That's a hell of a smallie at any ages, and doubly so for a kid. Nice job!!!

I have a lot of perch that size in the lake behind our building, but you really need a boat to get to the productive areas.

could you chum for perch? we found good sized schools, wondering if filling a chum pot with cap food would tend to keep them
underneath you.
