Report from Poland
 

I am posting this in the main, with no excuses. Updates as I hear them from people on the ground over there.
Wife's older brother lives 30 km from Polish Ukranian border, located between the two major immigration points. He was able to get coal delivery and petrol into car and extra in his shed. Those prices were up 300%.... let that sink in. He thanked his mother for the money we wired over to be sure he had enough. Food is coming from the west, ie Germany etc. and they are just buying carefully to be sure there is enough for all. The mood has turned grim since our last call Sunday and the Pols fully expect the Russians to invade Poland as well. They are preparing for war. Also said they got reports of Putin laughing at the sanctions as he has been preparing for a year and has all the diamonds and gold bullion he needs to sustain himself....

That's got to be deeply unsettling. Glad you were able to help them out. Was just reading the English version of Gazeta Wyborcza. Pretty interesting.

Welcome to 2022, my younger son was watching livestreams of kids hunkering down in Kyiv on TikTok.

I also Have family in Poland... My father spoke to them yesterday. Poland is welcoming refugees with open arms, but the numbers are staggering. Putin will not stop with Ukraine

Moldova will probably be next. And that might be all he can chew.

One thing to consider, he will make things tough on Poland but at this point he probably will not invade. His losses are too high and his logistics too thin (unless this is all a ruse) to take on NATO. If he takes Ukraine, he probably will or parts, he will have an active insurgency that will bog him down.

Before he can "stop" with Ukraine, he has to take it first. ;)

Poland is NATO. Putin's best tank, currently, is the T-90, which burns fuel like a blast furnace in a steel mill, and in any event, is no match for an Abrams or UK Challenger 2. There's no question, in my mind, that an attack on any NATO nation would get the US involved, once the invaded country invokes Article V.

Friend of mine is Ukrainian; has family a ways from the fighting, not
affected yet.
