Rod snapped...
Was out on friday fishing Rhody...had a good blitz of bass and blues mixed was a good time with both for about an hour and a half but was ended very abrutly when my rod snapped in half. It was a St. Croix 11' Ben Doeer 2 piece...the funny part was that it broke at the thickest part of the rod...about 2 1/2 inches above the cork...never seen this before...I would have figured if it snapped anywhere it would have been at one of the weaker/smaller parts of it. Any ideas as to why this happened?

Yeah OUCH is right!!! The worst part wasn't the rod breaking...it's under warranty and will be replaced...when I went back to the spot after picking up a new rod , I was talking to some guy leaving and he told me that a good school of 30+ # bass had rolled through an hour ago....while I was out getting the rod!!!:af: :smash:

now thats an OUCH !

You using braid on that rod? Not saying you can't but you do have to watch your drags a little more than with mono.
|
Yeah it's braid...my drag was on pretty tight, but not so much that there wasn't any give when I got into something...really makes me wonder how that snapped where it did...
|
I have broken graphite rods before, usually in a place where it was banging against something metal (truck bumper etc..)

I would guess it was bumped or damaged at that spot without you knowing it before it snapped under load.

I was in J&J Outfitters yesterday--Was that your St. Croix butt section sitting there?? Not a pretty sight!:(
|
Saltheart, that's what I'm guessing...the spot I climbed out to was pretty rough and a few time I had to swing my rod out in front of meso I could use both hands getting through the rocks...I may have smacked it on a rock or something.
Striper, that wasn't my rod at Jimmy's...it's on it's way out to St. Croix right now. |
