So digging through some old plugs…

Found this in a bucket in the basement.
Now it comes back to me losing a nice fish in the ditch a few years ago. |
I love darters. Just hate making them. The lip is labor intensive. That looks like a Super Strike. No?
|
Sorry for your loss Bob, must have been LARGE
Let me guess, early morning pre dawn I love that color done well will green darters that time of day around the turn. |
Never caught a thing on a darter even in places where I’ve caught many bass. But a lot of people swear by them . Oh well

I once had a small white two ounce Beachmaster darter. Very rare. Amazing plug. One time, a member of this site who I won’t name (Nebe) asked to borrow it so he could try and replicate its awesomeness. I never saw it again. My therapist said it was “ho’d” but to this day 18 years later I’m unsure of what that means.

And the plug itself! Taken while having a late night celebration beer with my buds!

I once found a blue and silver SS Darter at Deep Hole. That thing produced for a couple of years till I lost it.
|
yes, that color, and then there is translucent blue over green when that stops working
|
Not exactly the same, but had my best night ever on Northbar bottle darters in the ditch. I hope to have another night like that someday.

Kinda like letting the current do most of the work while I stare at the stars. |

I bought a lot of SS darters (also bottle plugs and that great medium sized Polaris style popper) on Long Island before moving to the Cape, and I don't think I ever paid more than $9.99 for one.
Fast forward 11 years when I was trying to clear everything out before moving abroad, and I was shocked at what some of them sold for on eBay. |
Grey white darter Quonnie outflow from west side at dawn. Wonderful.
|
Bubba tells me someone snagged all the SS lures on the wall at Red Top’s sale last weekend.
Kind of extreme me thinks |

Love making darters. Who better than a machinist
|
I'm not sure people can consider themselves serious SB fisherman w/o fishing darters.
|
"...and what a great memory. You had to be accessing thru RIMS."
Yup, grew up up down there and spent lots of time on the beaches and breachways. Still go down, but not until mid-november. Long drive, not enough time. |
Haha. I pretty much fish darters 70% of the time. If you fish them
A lot you will really appreciate a good wooden darter. Plastic SS darters are Like night and day compared to a good wooden darter I know many quality fish have been caught on SS over the years no denying that but I attribute that to the mass amounts of them that are used by so Many fishermen and the scarcity of good modern day wood darters. No one wants to throw a real Musso Or Pichney darter because of their collectabity. There are a few builders making some good one. Hunt them down. It’s worth it. My 2 cents. P. |

Why can’t all these Paul’s agree. I not going to say if you don’t use darters your a bum but I wouldn’t be caught dead without one or more.
|
Being 99% a boat fisherman and casting plugs are pretty much pencils, spook docs, and Polaris type poppers what is the action of these darters???? Do they just do there thing or do you work them a bit? Normal depth made? Shallow?
