Independence Day & Weekend Plans
Two hundred and Forty-Seven years ago, a bunch of folks smarter than us (certainly smarter than me) managed to give the bird to mother England, callsign LOTHAR (Loser Of THe American Revolution), and chart a course for a people unmatched in the millennia of recorded history. The oppression and taxes too great, freedoms too few, these wise folks put all their chips on the table and doubled down for future generations. This country has since become a beacon of hope to people everywhere.
For all of our problems, squabbles, and sparring, this two hundred something year old experiment in Democracy is working and we should strive harder to make it better. Sure, there may be a small handful of countries that may seem, oh I dunno, nicer, due to the lottery of geography, they have not needed to do the heavy lifting of the world. They have not become the melting pot, the inventors, or the facilitator of PAX AMERICANA, nor the bastion of Hope. Having spent time in other countries, including behind the Iron Curtain for a brief stint, we are lucky beyond words by lottery of birth. This week, embrace your freedoms, reflect on your good fortune, and please do an extra 10%. An extra ten as a parent, child, friend, and citizen. Try to cross the divide with those you may disagree with. The alternatives are far worse than most can comprehend. The hard part has been done, let's not make it harder for ourselves for the next 247 years. So what's up for the weekend? |

Jeff, lease a Subaru. Best SUV on the road.
I am working through next Wednesday. |
Finish installing some windows, make beer, drink beer. Dinners with different family members depending on the day.
Evis Saturday night at Tanglewood. Play with the granddaughter and hope not to get whatever is floating around dirty Jersey daycare lately. Last bug was a bit aweful. Celebrate my birthday (I am a yankee doodle dandy, as the song goes) with a reserve bottle and nice smoke. |

the LT running the show when while we were trying to tie up to ship was so concerned about us hitting the ship he keep repeating your not going to hit my ship. I finally told him not to worry we weren’t Danish . The crew thought it was funny. the LT not so much :jester: |
And to think that sucker can do nearly 50 kts.

It can't for long, and for the little it can, the complexity has created a hull that is overweight, has no room for expansion, destroys its propulsion, and is a pier queen. Arguably the Navv's largest boondoggle in decades, and there is a lot of competition. |
Great read from top to bottom JR….. thanks again…
Wayne I’m jealous ….. great job to have…. |
Asked the crew about its mission as coastal anti Submarine
His response was the Navy has changed it’s mission but he honestly isn’t sure what it’s going to be …. And he also said it’s horrible at Sea with a draft of 14 ft She sounds like the F35 designed for weapon systems that haven’t even been tested . Then doesn’t work on the platform as intended 9 freedom class ships the youngest of which commissioned in 2020 – have been marked for disposal as part of the Department of Defense’s Fiscal Year 2023 budget proposal…. Wow cheaper to get rid of them then operate them. :rotflmao: corporate welfare at its finest |

The original concept was a small ship that could swap out mission modules in 48 hours, tiny crew, and do 50 knots. The Mission Modules were ASW (Anti-Sub), ASuW (Anti-Surface with NLOS missiles), and Anti-Mine (robot mine detection). ALL THREE MISSIONS FAILED. The crews were too small, the hulls corroded too quickly (the fist ships had not Cathodic Protection), and both classes break their Combining gears with the combination Diesel set and Gas Turbine Engine. They are building 40 ships that cannot fight. |
This is cool..
THE FIRST NAVAL BATTLE OF THE REVOLUTION HAPPENED RIGHT HERE IN BUZZARDS BAY - West Island held prisoners of war. West Island became host to over 15 British sailors as the first prisoners of war of The United States Navy on May 14, 1775. Legend and piece meal history has it that the first naval battle of the Revolution was fought off the shores of West Island, within sight of today's Town Beach. Replaced flares at West marine during July 4th 25% off sale.
Setting up at one of my late client's harbor front home for fireworks tomorrow night. House is empty so I will just have to have my immediate family there with me as I will have to put out flares for the harbor illumination preceding the fireworks! My mother in law can walk inside four steps from car and there will be a bathroom available, so why not? |
