Just curious if they are still out and about. Missed them on Block it seems, but had them in CT last November 16 and it sounds like they are still in CT this year as well.

Just curious and itching to get some sandy beach time in as well.

I’ve been all over this year . Hunting albies and when I have found them some times they were all over the place. . But always tight lipped .. haven’t managed more than 4 in a trip . Which still beats a skunk. But by no means historic..

Haven’t had a historic Albie trip in 2 years . And now the boats wrapped up .. so that’s that :wavey:

I skipped along the coastline from 2nd beach to FAdams ....got 2 bass to the boat, 2 bloofish to match em, saw horse-mackerel surface feeding near the lighthouse, but no sign of any pelagic-mini-meez anywhere, ....Sat still for a couple of hours this morning and boated 7 Tog, would have stayed longer but the SB emptied our bait-bucket- lotta action out there, just gotta sift through the shortz and C-Basstidges

So not ready to hang it up yet ... but the end is near :crying:
boatings made me so surf-lazy, but maybe I'll find the drive to don the wetsuit next week ... even if just for nostalgia-effects,:fishin:

sometimes just being in the surf in the dark just takes you back to some special place that nothing else will

Depends on distance. From shore they sell a weighted Albie snak hook which could help. Or a expoxy jig 7/8 or heavier. Those are my 2 main go to lures .. deadly #^&#^&#^&#^&s at one time produced . Not sure why albies don’t seem interested in them .

Or try a casting egg and fly . That worked extremely well for me this year . When they were finicky . And you can get some distance..

I get it. Friday a co-worker who belongs to a boat club went out with a non-fishing buddy to PJ as I've seen fishing breaking after work and let him know. They were plugging and catching a lot of Albies and Bonita. Neither even knew what the fish were so he sent me a few pics. But they caught ALOT... on plugs

Better to be lucky than good some days.

I throw epoxy jigs most of the time. Especially if they are on sand eels or silversides. Switch to something larger in profile if they are on peanuts. Maybe a stubby Hopkins or Savage Tadpole or Jumpin Minnow or Snax. This year on the Vineyard Deadly #^&#^&#^&#^&s seemed to be the thing for Bonito from my informal survey.

Size and color can be the deciding factor or they will hit anything flashy that gets dragged in front of them. Depends on the day.

Spent 100+ nights a year in the surf for 30+ years, all in the dark. I can't even fish when it's light out.

fast fish only come out in daylight, so I do both.

I saw a bunch caught at night when I used to go on night bluefish party boat trips in NY. They'll eat a chunk like any other fish.

The mates would keep them, and sell them to some Chinese dudes who'd meet the boat back at the dock. Along with bluefish that the fares didn't want to take home.

Took a look at the epoxy jigs. Look pretty useful; nice on line article about them by Hogy. Will try next year!

I have caught some very good bluefish on epoxies as well as fast fish

Saw an Albie next to my shed today, it was a fish out of water moment, but it will soon be swimming in Cabot Timber Oil.

Unlike these fish.....they ain't swimmin' no more - it's great that we all see the state of the fishery the same

People who pay a party boat fare want meat to take home. Maybe party boats on Long Island shouldn't target bass.

Don't misunderstand me, everybody needs to make a living - and the times that I've party-boated, I had the same mission...pack the freezer.

I'm not faulting the captain nor the fares, more the over-all system.

No different than out front Newport right now with blackfish. The out of state and instate head boats and private boats hammering on those slow growing buggers is not sustainable...

....and so much for fisheries management.

Fiddling with the slot is like rearranging the deck chairs on the Titanic as they say. Time for scheduled closures is now before it needs to be an all out moratorium again. YOY is not going to get any much better until the water cools off.
