Cuttyhunk Ferry home base in trouble?

I am confused. it appears they are building a new pier ? And looking to make sure the ferry service has a spot in the new development..

I have never been on the island. Or taken the Cuttyhunk ferry service with that being said. what am I missing when it comes to this location? Or the islands lay out. Thanks

They are at risk of losing their base of operations (including crane) on the mainland at the New Bedford pier. This business is a vital lifeline for the island, even if we prefer to use the Water Taxi which is more flexible in its scheduling for groups of fishermen.

Here is the back story about Mikey's first trip over on the Cuttyhunk Ferry. Young Bomba had to relieve himself so he went into the head.#^&Truth be told, there was a sign that said "Do Not Push" but Mikey being Mikey just had to see what would happen..... and got a golden shower from the holding tank in the head!

Let me separate the following from above....

Cuttyhunk Island is a magical place...Some of my favorite memories took place there. Wayne, you should take your boat over and spend a night or two at the Club. While you can..... as should any member here.

For such a quiet little out of the way place things sure are changing and/or constantly at risk.

What Mikey didn't tell everyone is that we got stuck on the drawbridge because there was a robbery at the 7-11 upstream, and the moron tried to swim across to New Bedford. Tide was running out, so the cops had the bridge shut down for maybe 40 minutes.

Mikey drank many nips while waiting, and was doing the pee pee dance on the dock while waiting to load the boat.

His eyeballs were floating by the time we crossed the hurricane barrier, and the head opened up.

He told me that's what he thought was the flush, which was kind of funny, since the head had a normal flush handle, just like any other toilet.

I got to go in there next and there was literally piss dripping from the ceiling.

yep. we havent been back since 2021 but i keep up on island happenings a bit through a friend who spends a month there every summer. I understand why some people who call Cuttyhunk home might want to fight so hard against any kind of change - its a fragile ecosystem. of course progress can be good and i know it must be a delicate balance of moving things forward but preserving the history and tradition of such a special place...

Anyway, we're finally heading back there this july with my dad and brother for our "annual" pilgrimage. This time I'm bringing my older son (he'll be 8) for his first time. It will be nice to have three generations of us there together.

I'm excited for him to see what a slower pace of life looks like and the kind of freedoms that can afford a kid his age.
