Anyone seeing pogies?

I know there are some around . Seeing small groups of them maybe 50 fish in a school on the sounder . Not seeing any schools where you have a chance of snagging some .. hope they show soon. I am finding the bite has slack off this week.

Not sure if lack of bait is causing it.

I was out last weekend with Mike on Fishbucket.
We were targeting flounder.
Flounder was slow with all the east wind we had for multiple days but we had pogies flipping around us .
Was out yesterday yesterday on my boat,
They were flipping at a few of the usual spots in my side of Boston harbor.

I throw a net when and if I can find them 15ft or less of water . But will snag them in deeper water ..

But this year so far .. there is no BIO mass in Mt hope bay from providence to Fall River that’s Ive seen.

Last week a few outings were lights out. On the flutter spoon.. was out last 2 days to include today before the T storms got bad.. and didn’t mark a bass from Somerset to tiverton basin and prudence island .

And zero pogies flipping anywhere .. it’s a ghost town right now

Clammer 05-23-2024 06:20 PM

I was told that the mother of the guys wanted it sold

they had permits for everywhere that was were the money was

I was told that someone bought it an was working out of New Bedford

an was going to have a machine made that they could flash freeze..

pogies that would be all set to drop into lobster pots ,

I can,t confirm that .i saw the same two boats north of MHB <><

Clammer 05-23-2024 06:26 PM

I have guys that give the leftovers for crab bait ... I got none this year.
I was using them from last year . but pulled the pots because commercial tog ends at midnight for the spring quota <><

Cruised the whole bay yesterday am (55 miles) and didn't see much except for very spotty action mid bay and south. Saw the fleet jigging off Sandy Point with just a few caught - didn't mark much bait.

Nice catch! I was out with my son last night (on non rocky beach, still having trouble with knee) and we didn't catch a thing. We did have a bunch of laughs though.

bloocrab 06-04-2024 08:47 PM

Pogies were plentiful today and so were the Striped-Ones... just not in the same place though

Wayne, was that you talking to the pogy-guy this morning? Thought I saw your boat pulled up alongside him...??

Great day on the water this morning.. The Stripers were very cooperative, biggest one tipped the scale at 39lbs....smallest went 23lbs... had them around me all morning until I had to call SeaTow :eek5: ... "click, click"...no vroooom...thinking she thinks she's in gear and setting off the kill-switch, tried a bunch of stuff while baking in the sun, nada...shifted back and forth, forth and back, disconnected cabling, checked fuses, took apart throttle control to check connections,,, nada...off to the Doctor's office tomorrow morning, hoping to get her back before the week's end, hopefully the fisheez will still be around and active

I need day of poor weather for a break .. been out 0430 last few days.

I don’t think the bait is going anywhere and the bass and blues are all over them so until the water warms .. I think we’ve got another solid week
