Bilge pump (separate float switch vs auto)
 

Hey guys,
So I have a 19' CC that has a separate float switch and bilge, with a
dash switch.

Something stopped working somewhere, and my question is, are there any drawbacks to installing a new bilge pump with the float switch built in (eliminating the separate float switch)?


I would still run it direct to my battery and dash switch.

I had one. But they have different ones mine was electronic or sensor it lasted 2 year the manual switch was fine same with issue one with a built in float. The get gummed up. The Mines on the trailer I just replaced it with a bigger manual pump seeing I only deal with rain water or when I forget the plug. (It happens ). If it was at a marina I’d have a float switch

I keep mine on a mooring... I rarely get much water in the bilge, due to a self-bailing deck so rain water drains right out. I either have to figure out what part of my existing set up has failed, or just replace with an auto bilge with float switch built in , instead of separate float switch.

And then move on to so many other issues... like my cable steering not allowing me to fully turn left

I always ran a bilge pump with a built in float. Never had an issue in the 10 years I owned the boat.

Mine is self bailing they said wink wink. But when it rains she fills right up . It’s no on perfect level ground .. :huh:

I've only had to replace mine (BIF) once in 12 years, but I trailer...I'd probably have both if I moored, with the float switch acting as backup...I only moored for about a year and never lost that uneasy feeling, especially in heavy down-pours :shocked:

The 2 I have in the bilge are I think 650 gph. Rule
This model no longer around but it is all in one. Internal float. NOT the computerized come on every 3 min thing. Hate those

I have an amsbury dory and it has one of the newer all in one pumps that turns on every 5 or 10 minutes for about .5 seconds. Im not sure what thwy were thinking by adding this feature but in my opinion it insures that the thing will not sieze up and not work when you need it.
