If it's a brand new system, call Dell and they'll walk you through a system restore (HP/IBM/Dell usually have a partition where they have an image of the system as it's shipped so they can restore it...

Do you have a backup power supply or surge protector hooked to the computer?
Real hardware issues usually are more random than that so I'm guessing power spike...
