S-B Cutty trip round up 2013

Majority of this year's crew arrived on Thursday, just in time for some heavy rain and 30 knot winds from the north. Some ventured out before the worst of it settled in and had some small fish. Friday AM ferries with our regular ride were cancelled, so the remainder of the crew caught the morning or evening ferry over. Spiderman did his awesome ribs for Friday's dinner, a trip highlight. We eat really well, with Chefchris organizing what each guy is to bring and then making a great presentation of our big meals before heading out each night. The guy knows his stuff, and makes it look easy... After a couple hours to digest, folks headed out in pairs or groups. A number of wetsuiters trekked to the SW Corner in the dark, waded out, found their perches, only to find out that they were surrounded by light mung.... So they headed east in search of open water. I headed out with JohnR around 10:30. We were waiting on last stages of flooding tide, and being the cripples we are, we fished within 400 yards of the Club steps..... I had a small fish on a white RMS needle around 0230, but that was it for me. Up to the porch around 0330 and after a lot of BSing and musing about fishing the false dawn... I went to bed, for about 4 hours. Others can put up their fish reports, and there were some, but it wasn't lights out fishing. Too close to being after the big blow? I don't know. Suffice it to say, as JohnR was all too happy to point out, if I had theclubhouse leading fish, 38" 17#, in the early afternoon daylight, within paces of the club stairs, it weren't great. But it is never for a lack of effort!
Saturday dinner was great. Steak ands shrimp burritos, Striper, veggies, salads, and sides. Timber and I headed out for an adventure with WPmafia on Cohen's boat. Was shown some very fishy structure, but we were on the end of the current, as it went slack. A bluefish off the bottom (really?) and one good fish lost was the extent of our production. We got back around 0300 and Blondterror was coming in after landing a +30# fish, again less than half a mile from the Club. Saturday night results had highest yields but I don't know numbers and no one was bragging....
Got to bed around 0500, again.... (these weekends are like returning to a fraternity house...) Woke up around 0800, and had an hour to shower, pack my chit, and get it and my arse on the ferry! Cup of OJ. No time for coffee or food. My head was pounding on the ferry, not knowing what it needed more, sleep or caffeine.
Always a great trip. Begins the summer for me. Try to get involved in one if you have a chance. We had just 14 guys this year, the lightest number to date. Some had bailed last minute due to work, commitments, or the weather... I start getting indications of interest in January, and look to tighten up open slots in April/May. We have had new folks on every trip. Preference goes to previous attendees, then members, then members' family, then friends. The Cuttyhunk forum is nothing more than a place to organize ferry times, and who is bringing what for the meals. The 2014 Cuttyhunk trip is Thursday June 12 through Sunday June 15, which is Fathers Day.
