I take my clues from the squirrels. Ever see one running around or feeding
on a hot day? Look close and you'll see them laying still high on a branch which
tells me it's time to take a nap.
Once the fledglings are on their own, except for a block of suet I stop feeding until the fall. They need some time to learn to fend for themselves.
Did the same thing with my own kids, once they had a job I kicked them out of the nest.
